Holidays, Snowy Cookie Tree
We got a surprise from Mother Nature on Friday
And we had a good old fashioned Snow Day
It was predicted and schools were closed and for once, many were home safe before the world turned white
The snowy trees were all the inspiration I needed to create a sweet snowy tree
With Christmas cookies from Trader Joe’s, sprinkles and buttercream icing, this was a quick project
I played with the arrangement of cookies before I started “gluing” them together
The colored frosted cookies are anchored to the plate with a dollop of icing and then more icing holds the cookies in place as they are layered and stacked
2 gingerbread men iced together are on top
Snowballs of icing grab sprinkles and snowflakes on the tree “boughs”
This is going to be a surprise for the littles today, when they come over to decorate gingerbread houses
They had so much fun last year, it has quickly become a tradition
The key to success was hot gluing the houses together before they got here so they could start decorating right away
Instead of the icing that came in the kits we used canned icing, much easier!
The houses were so much fun to have for decorations!

Snowy Cookie Tree
Ingredients
- 2-3 dozen cookies
- homemade buttercream icing or canned icing
- sprinkles
- buttercream icing
- 1/2 stick 4 T unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups confectioner’s sugar
- 2-4 T milk or cream
- 1 tsp almond emulsion or vanilla
Instructions
- Arrange cookies in layers starting with the biggest layer on the bottom and gradually tapering to a small layer at the top.
- Use dollops of icing to secure bottom layer of cookies to plate and then securing additional layers with more icing. Place small “snowballs” of icing on cookie tips and edges and sprinkle tree with decorations like sparkling sugar, snowflakes and colored sprinkles.
- Wrap in plastic wrap and store at room temperature
This is a great project to do with children too, if they’re not out playing in the snow!

Jenna, what an adorable cookie tree, and for sure yummy! I know your Little’s were excited and I have a feeling they enjoyed. Making gingerbread houses must have been a really fun project. You are a fun-loving grandmother! Happy Sunday!
How adorable. I hope you let the little eat the cookie tree – life is short! And I love your method for the gingerbread workshop. I’m sure that saves a lot of frustration, both for the little littles, and for Grandma!
Really fun cookie tree! It looked much the same around here with almost 10 inches of snow between Friday and Saturday. It is warmer today, but I doubt I can get out until tomorrow afternoon.

Oh Jenna, let the littles eat! What a cute and fun idea. Love the gingerbread houses and a good start by gluing the house together. No fun when little ones get the house together an it starts to slide apart, yikes! Pretty snow pics. Have a good week.

The tree is just adorable! I say since it is so easy to make – let them eat it and make another! We did the premade houses this year the day after Thanksgiving. I loved the houses and the candy but the frosting was horrible! I said next year we make our own! Theirs turned out so cute!
