Fearless Friday, Naughty or Nice?

Getting ready for Christmas with so many things on my mind this week,

I was having trouble visualizing the food

for our family feast on Christmas Eve

Naughty or Nice is the theme

with kid & adult friendly finger food

I used PicMonkey online photo editor to design a sign

Creating a blank template and then adding text

and uploading my own photos for overlays

The Naughty Elf and Gingerbread Welcome are done with markers, colored pencils, and pens

Perfect to pair with a Santa face {from PicMonkey’s stock photos}

For the menu, I added overlays from PicMonkey

I also love the convenience of saving things in the  PicMonkey “hub” so it’s possible to go back and make changes later

You can use PicMonkey for free, and you’ll find all the tutorials about it here

I’ve been fine tuning the menu for weeks, keeping things nice and easy, but I kept changing my mind

I was desperate for some visualization

Once again I turned to my pal PicMonkey and found some images to represent the dishes I planned to serve,

editing the screen shots and

making a collage to represent the planned buffet layout

The food will be placed on the central kitchen island with a Sweet Shoppe vignette as the centerpiece

I’m getting a little help by serving Chick Fila nuggets and honey mustard, picked up the day before and reheated

Trader Joe’s Almond Kringle, bought last month and frozen

Spiral ham, already cooked and cut into biscuit sized pieces and frozen, will fill homestyle biscuits also from the freezer, baked the day before, assembled and then reheated right before the party

hmmm… maybe I’ll do a quick sketch…

Can you tell I’m stalling?

I would much rather draw than wrap presents…

I ended up having a lot of fun drawing and it really took away the last minute indecision

Whether you sketch your buffet layout or actually create it by placing platters and serving pieces out on the table, advance planning takes away the last minute stress…

My dining room was actually being painted on Wednesday, and a new cook top was being installed in the kitchen…

Nothing like a little last minute chaos!

What kind of apps or websites do you use to create?

My favorite part of computer art is the freedom and speed of trying different colors, shapes, fonts and arrangements…

Designing on a computer makes it easy to Be Fearless!

I’ve pinned my favorite PicMonkey tips and tutorials to this Pinterest board here

Have a very Merry Christmas!

Oh, Jenna, this is right up my organization alley! I have little index card teepees that I lay out on my counters with all my serving dishes, so I know exactly where everything will be placed. Your menu sounds and looks great. I’ve been tempted to use CFA for other family gatherings but have wondered how reheating will stand up to the test – please let me know. I made the King Hawaiian sliders for a family lunch last week, and they went over well (except for my picky eating husband). Enjoy your Christmas, I know I would be thrilled to be your guest!

    • I reheat Chick Fila all the time, and I also like to serve it because it’s good at room temp too, and with a gathering like this it’s impossible to keep everything piping hot. Last year I made everything and wore myself out, so this year I’m going for very simple. Thanks Rita, Merry Merry Christmas!

  4. I always end up drooling when I come to your site. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

  5. Wow, you are fearless having work done in your kitchen right before Christmas! But, how nice it will be to create such a yummy meal on a new cooktop. Your menu sounds yummy!! I’ve never used Pic Monkey but will put that on my list for next year, your graphics are so cute!

    • Yes it was eventful, but today it’s all finished and I can quickly tidy up. I purposely planned the menu so I would have very little to do so I’m not even stressed. I hope you have a Merry Christmas Carole in beautiful NC!

  6. Sounds delish to me..what time should I arrive? lol

  7. That composite painting of all your goodies is THE best! Merry and Happy!

Jenna, Chick-fil-A nuggets have been on our holiday menus for Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving since our nephews were toddlers and fussy eaters. Now most of them are in college and we still have a tray out of tradition to go with everything else! I hope you’re enjoying your new cooktop and paint color. Merry Christmas!

  11. Jenna, I always love your Featless Friday! Your menu sounds wonderful and love the Sweet Shoppe for the centerpiece! I lreally like the ease of your food. I was in the kitchen for two days preparing for Christmas dinner.

    • You poor thing! As easy as this sounds, Dec 23 was rough!! But I got to relax all Christmas Day and we went to our daughter’s house for dinner. I hope you don’t get too worn out with your post Christmas house guests!
