Fearless Friday, Blushing “Sweet Sue”

I have been dying to try a collage, and couldn’t quite get started

so I began with a rough sketch

I decided to combine painting and collage, to get more in my comfort zone

Have you seen these portrait type paintings of women?

Zelda, Kim Kreis

Kim Kreis is one of my favorite artists

She is known for her faceless females with flowers and things in her hair

She calls them the Flower Ladies, see them here

Frida, Maren Devine

Maren Devine  also has a fun, loose style

These ladies were my inspiration for the blushing “Sweet Sue”

glass beads and old watercolor paintings

clear glass beads, flat on one side, come in handy for lots of projects,

you can paint them any color you like

hair and background

“Trying on” her jewelry

Rubber cement, mod podge, glue, and finishing details with paint pens

Blushing “Sweet Sue”

was feeling quite blue

so she decided to bake

a variety of cakes

not to eat, but instead

to put on top of her head!

Then with jewelry and flowers

She gained magical powers!

I get so much inspiration from my artist friends

Jodi @ the Creative Life in Between

Jill @ Jill’s Art Journal,

Sharon @ Make Art…Magic Happens

a visit to them always brings a smile

Oh Jenna! I love her!!! You rocked this project and I love your inspiration I wish I had a unique “thing” like this that is my go to art. Still trying to find it. Seriously love!!!

    • Really? Thanks Jodi, I was nervous about posting it because it’s so odd, but it was tons of fun to do! You might not have a “thing” but you do have a wonderful and unique style that is yours alone, I hope you get lots of painting time in this weekend!

  2. How fun! Collage is also on my bucket list to try. Who knew you could paint glass pebbles?? Thank you for introducing me to Kim Kreis and Maren Devine as well as Jill and Sharon’s blogs. I was already being inspired by Jodi, thanks to you. Love your FF!

Jenna, ‘Fearlessness’ is your super power! I love that Sweet Sue is blooming with cupcakes and flowers ♥

  10. Wow Jenna- she’s fabulous! This made me think of myself in the 70’s and how I resembled the look and “flower power” was a frequent term! Love the details and “color”!!
