The Importance of Water

I had a crazy couple of days a few weeks ago

crazy bead bowl

There were a lot of things going on and I was frazzled

hand painted needlepoint canvas

One morning I felt extra weird, as in melt down, should I call 911 weird…

I did some deep breathing and calmed down and then I was fine

cool calm and collected

The next day it happened again

heartbeat

All of a sudden my heartbeat was all over the place

And then again, after a while, everything was calm again…

But the next day, the feeling came back and it started building…

peacock dreams

Up and down and swirling around and I called the Dr…

He sent me for tests…

And after  x-rays, a brain scan, blood work, blood pressure checks and lots of other scary stuff, guess what he said?

I was preparing the the worst

“You’re dehydrated.”

😳

“What?”

“Yep,” he said, “we’re going to pump some fluids in you and then you’ll be good to go!”

I couldn’t believe it…

I started seeing a rainbow…

I had semi packed a bag to go to the hospital…

I had rearranged things, cancelled appointments, and thought about what this could mean going into the future…

And all I needed was water…

Let me share some things I learned from this experience

I am a huge water drinker.  I don’t drink anything else except coffee in the morning and wine in the evening.  No soda, no tea, nothing but water.  Even though I carry water around with me all day, I really wasn’t drinking much, just taking a sip now and then.

Here are the symptoms I was having:

headaches, fatigue, tingling, numbness, increased heart rate, lack of appetite, borderline dizziness, shaky, sudden intense thirst*

And all I needed was more water.

Was I relieved?? YES!

Did I feel STUPID? YES!

The nurse said, “You would be amazed at how many people come in dehydrated, don’t worry about it, we’re just glad it’s nothing serious.”

*All of these things can be symptoms of much more serious problems, so DON’T IGNORE THEM, please see a Dr. immediately

Cheers to the magic of water!

I plan on making a huge dent in this water tower in the future!

Wow. Water is so important. Glad you are ok. Thank you for sharing all this beautiful art too!!!

  2. Since, I got a Yeti for myself I drink more water. It is so nice to have cold water at your fingertips. Nice to sip during the night, too. I love my Yeti!
Glad you are ok. Thanks for the reminder of how important water is.

  3. I am so glad it was something simple. I drink a huge amount of water everyday. My husband gives me a hard time for needing to use a restroom so much, but I tell him he doesn’t go enough. You are well hydrated when you need to go every 3-4 hours. Keeps your kidneys in good health too when they have enough fluids to flush out the waste from the bloodstream.

    • Yes, I felt really dumb, I have been a huge advocate for water for years, we never even had soft drinks in the house…I just stopped being mindful about how much I was actually drinking…

    Glad you are ok.
    Love your beautiful art! 💕

What a scare Jenna, I can only imagine having all those tests and the relief you must have felt! So glad it was something so simple to fix. A dehydration headache is the worst. I got horribly dehydrated after a long flight to Hawaii…I didn’t want to constantly to be getting up and hate using the restroom on the plane. I was horribly sick when we arrived and lost a whole day in Hawaii. The moral of that story is drink up! ♥

Whoa, what a wakeup call and scare!
Your timing on this post couldn’t be better, Jenna! I drink water by the gallons (with fresh cut lemons, preferably). Yesterday was a day spent at the antique mall, styling smalls for what seemed an eternity (3 hrs), followed by paperwork at home for another 3 hrs. Bottom line…..not enough water, and legs were so restless I couldn’t sleep. Happens every time I do that.
On another note…..the link to your needlepoint pillows! Ohmygoodness! I want that bunny pillow and that wigged out Christmas shopper, lol! Want to sell them?

    • Oh thanks Rita, you’ve made me feel less foolish, I just get so busy sometimes too…Thanks for the pillow love, I have had a lot of fun recreating my favorite designs in stitches.

  7. Don’t feel stupid, Jenna. That COULD have been something else. You must have been so freaked — I know I would have been. I sometimes forget about that too so this is really an important post to share. I’m so grateful it wasn’t anything serious.

  8. Jenna, what a terrible scare. I am so thankful that it could easily be remedied.. I need to drink more water. Thank you for the reminder, I needed it!

  9. Jenna, I was so worried about you that day and so thankful it wasn’t serious. This is really something I took to the bank after it happened to you, I am consciously drinking more water, a good lesson for all. Love your art and pics to tell your story and thank you for sharing this. Something we should all take seriously……..Now, we need to make up the day we lost. Let me hear from you when you come north…………

  10. Sharon Mann says:

I’m so happy to hear you are ok Jenna, and that water was your only medicine. A wake up call for all of us. Thank you.

  11. So glad you are okay. Yes, water is so important to our bodies. I try to drink water throughout the day and even carry water to my bedroom with me when I go to bed at night. But I can just as good when I am not drinking enough water. Praise the Lord you are okay. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  12. I’m so glad that you are ok. I had to laugh because no matter what ache or pain I am having the Mr. always says the same thing… you’re dehydrated. I drink the same as you. I love to carry around a water bottle but I don’t necessarily drink out of it. Same with yoga pants.. just because I wearing them doesn’t mean I work out. Don’t tell anybody said that. Enjoy your day and don’t forget to drink your water!!

  13. I also have a water bottle near by, but forget to drink!! Happy to hear it was something so simple that you can remedy!! Happy drinking!

  14. Jill Kuhn says:

You are so right, water is sooo important and I think we all forget to drink enough of it, especially in cooler weather. I know I do. Happy to hear you are OK, Jenna, I can imagine it was pretty scary not knowing what was going on with your body. 😊 I loved seeing all your artwork and humor in your post today, so clever! Peacock dreams is gorgeous !! 💚💙💚

  15. Jacqueline says:

Wow I didn’t know dehydration could cause all of those symptoms unless you were hiking out in the desert in the heat. So glad that is all it was. I too enjoyed your use of your art to tell this scary story!

  16. Cyndi Raines says:

What a great post Jenna, your art is awesome with your story. So glad you are o.k. we can all learn from this lesson. Thank you for sharing.

  17. Hope Smitherman says:

Oh gracious! I’m glad to hear it was nothing serious and you’re back to yourself! And, thank you for the reminder. Like you, I have water with me everywhere I go, but sometimes catch myself not going through it as quickly as I should. And, the images in this post are really beautiful, especially your painted pieces!!

  18. Carol says:

When I started reading your post I had to skip to the end. So happy it to see a happy ending. Thank you for sharing. I am now more aware of how much water I drink.
    XOXO

  19. A lesson for us all. Thanks Jenna, and I’m happy you’re feeling better!
