Fearless Friday, Palm leaves in Goauche

Have you ever painted with goauche paint?  It is similar to watercolor, but it is more opaque

I bought an inexpensive set of 24 colors and a palette pan

This is just like my watercolor palette, with individual pans that can be moved around

These metal palettes are airtight, light weight, and so handy for keeping supplies at your fingertips

You can use the inside of the lid for mixing colors, and it will wash right off

Extra pans are nice for keeping favorite color mixes already made up

The cases aren’t much bigger than an iPhone 7 Plus

I choose this Van Gogh print to coordinate with the dark blue and white daisies of my watercolor pan

You can buy these from Amazon here

I decided to paint some simple palm leaves to experiment with the paint and some of the colors

I wanted to design a palm print for my Society6 Shop

I loaded the brush and began the strokes from the center and quickly stroking up and out, letting the paint lighten towards the tips

I put an extra sheet underneath the paper so I could keep the strokes loose as they went off the paper

This helps the strokes look natural

I did the same thing on the another edge, this time starting the leaves on the under paper and letting them finish on the painting

Touches of blue

A light blue wash around the edges

More colors and smaller palms

“Breezy Palms”

“Breezy Palms” is available on 21 different items in my Society6 shop here, perfect for summer!

  1. Jenna, I always enjoy Fearless Friday! The “Breezy Palms” are so pretty. The tote would be a great beach bag. Happy Mother’s Day Weekend!

Very pretty, I can almost feel the breeze! 😊

These palms are painted beautifully, and how great the look on the Society 6 items.

  4. I need to check out your watercolor pan. I like the one I have but this does have certain charms (and I do need one for my gouache!) Love your palms. Very tropical!

  5. The Rosewood in San Miguel set up a mini studio for me on our terrace with a similar set of gouaches. Having never used them before, nor watercolors, I made a huge mess of my wonderful gift! Your palm fronds are gorgeous Jenna!

    • how nice that they set up a studio for you! and what a fabulous place to paint! Watercolor is really hard I think, and can be frustrating…I hope you’ll give it another try, it can be fun…thanks Johanne

  6. Mary says:

Beautiful breezy palms! I hope you’re enjoying some of those at the Gulf this weekend! ♥

    • thanks Mary, and yes the weather is perfect on the coast, cooler than Birmingham which is in the mid 90’s, yikes. I have to go up Monday, I am hoping it cools off a little, too early for such heat 😅

  7. Linda says:

Loved this. I used to be part of an art group and I usually painted odd things around the house or furniture. Then, we moved out of state and I let my art girlfriends and our annual sale behind. I saw your post and thought THIS is what I’m missing. Thanks for inspiring me and no, I was not familiar with that paint but it is already in my cart on Amazon. LOL Visiting via Make It Pretty Monday.
