Creations, Palm Bark Crafts

Admittedly, I am not much of a gardener, but I do know a thing or two about palm trees

Every few months they need to be trimmed, the old leaves removed

And the bark stripped off the trunk to keep them looking groomed

See how the left tip is weathered, and bark that was underneath other tips is a beautiful, teak-like shiny brown

When our trees were trimmed I scooped up some pieces to play with

What would you do with this?

HH says I will paint anything that’s not moving   😂

What do you visualize on this bark?

I immediately thought LOBSTER!

I painted the claws and body with a pinkish red, with swashes of coral and yellow, then added some fun colors for interest

I got the idea from a fish my sis-in-law gave me, it’s a fish painted on a piece of wood with a palm bark for fins

I also painted another bark piece with a mermaid tail

Are you wondering what I’m going to do with them?

Hmmmm….

On either side of the TV I have a vase and a lantern filled with shells and other beachy things, with bottles and abstract painted boards, and these seem to fit right in

They will most likely end up under the house where we have lots of crazy stuff

These are kind of silly I guess, but…

It’s fun to make something out of nothing!

Hi Jenna, I have an artificial “tree” that we bought about 25 years ago at a furniture market in North Carolina. It is about 10 feet tall and the “trunk” is made of some sort of circular core covered with these palm husks or barks. It looks very realistic but after 25 years was in poor repair. We are in the process of cleaning it thoroughly, and getting it all shipshape again. I need some of these palm husks or even just bark pieces from palms to fill some spaces where the “tree” has lost those over time. Can’t find much on the web. Would it be possible to call you and maybe obtain a few of your palm husks- the plain ones before decorations? I would be happy to pay you for your trouble and pay shipping and just plain pay something for these. I am originally from California and I think probably every yard I ever had, had a palm like this in it. But now I live in North Carolina and there are no palms here. My name is Karen Carty and my phone number is: 704-402-9370. email karencarty@bellsouth.net. If you think you might be able to help me, please call or email and get in contract with me. Thank you so much. 🙂

    • hi Karen, Let me see what I can find next week when I go back to the beach…it just depends on whether the landscapers have done any trimming lately…I’d be happy to send them to you if I can find any, I’ll get back to you next week. Your tree sounds so unique!
