Fearless Friday, Watercolor Artichoke

This is a re-post of one of my favorite watercolors.  I am busy with some personal matters this week so please forgive me for not visiting, commenting and replying.  I miss you all so much, I hope to be back next week

How do you feel about artichokes? Our family loves artichokes, and not only are they good to eat, they look wonderful in centerpieces, flower arrangements, vignettes and they are fun to paint!

I painted this using  the “wet into wet” technique

artichoke 3

Wet the area you want the paint to flow into

artichoke 4

Drop in colors, letting them naturally blend together

artichoke 5

The light source is from the right so the colors deepen towards the left or shadow side of the artichoke

I also built colors and depth with layers of color

Artichokes are full of different colors if you really study them

  4. I love your tutorials and admie your skill with light. Light and getting it right is my hardest part, I think! I’ll have to give this one a try.

Your artichoke done with watercolors is simply stunning, Jenna! When you eat an artichoke, you really see the colors, and intricacies of it, you realize the beauty of God’s work.
    Thinking of you, dear Jenna.

I have absolutely no talent for painting so I enjoy your step by step tutorial and following along. It’s amazing how it looks so authentic!

Jenna, I don’t know how you do it…so real looking. I am jealous.
