Even though I sometimes include personal stories and photos on the Painted Apron, my main goal is to provide inspiration, information and stimulate creativity.  The Painted Apron is indeed a happy place for me because it prods me to learn, experiment, try new things, and share ideas.

I have experienced a major life change recently, but I plan on moving forward with my life, continuing to do the things I love.

Just a quick note to share what’s been going on, my husband, HH, passed away Aug 1.  It was totally unexpected, he has always been so fit and healthy.  He was in the place he loved the most, our beach house, when his heart stopped beating.  Please, please, don’t feel badly for me, I am surrounded by family, friends and neighbors who are showering us with love, hugs, support and food…

The best thing for me is to continue to live my life remembering the very special marriage we had.  We had a love at first sight moment when we met and married very young.  HH was loved by all, always the life of the party and so very generous.  {You can read more here and see photos if you like}

Thank you for all the sweet comments and support you have given me the last 6 years, and I consider each and every reader a very special friend…

I hope you will continue to follow along as I embark on my new adventure…

  34. Ellen says:

    My heart aches for you as you begin this journey. Grieving is also a journey, one that we would rather not undertake, but nonetheless necessary. It encompasses a time of reflection, pain, despair, hope, readjustment, reinvolvement, and healing. May I suggest, when you feel ready, that you read “On Grief and Grieving” by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross. I share her words often : “The reality is that you will grieve forever. You will not ‘get over’ the loss of a loved one; you will learn to live with it. You will heal, and you will rebuild yourself around the loss you have suffered. You will be whole again, but you will never be the same. Nor should you be the same, nor would you want to be.” Thank-you for sharing, the photos are beautiful!

    I am just returning from the mountains where I had very limited Internet access. I am sorry to hear of your loss. I know exactly how you feel and the emotions you are experiencing at this time. It was just two years ago that I lost my husband after a brief illness. It was devastating as it all happened so quickly. Being surrounded by your family and friends and having them to support you during this time is the best thing that can happen to you Two years later, certain things still bring me to tears, but I promise you the hurt lessens and you willl be amazed at the strength you gain.

    I did keep some of his T-shirts to have a T-shirt quilt made. I have the squares cut, but need to find somebody who can turn them into a quilt. I also kept his jeans and had a prints made for both his kids and me. I decorated a picture frame with pens and other momentos from his life and Put a great picture of him in it. The last thing they brought me some comfort, is I found a place that took his hand writing and transferred it to a keychain. I was able to take the I love you from a card and put on the keychain, and it is in my husband’s hand writing.

    I will keep both you and your family in my prayers.

    • I am so sorry for your loss Erline, thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. How lovely to make some of his things into beautiful mementos for you and your family. I am so lucky to have had so many wonderful years with him, and I can only feel blessed and grateful for that and the outpouring of love and support I am feeling from all my friends, real and virtual…thank you for your prayers and comments today.

  46. Shelia says:

    My husband died on Aug. 12, 2013. Your blog and a couple of others gave me a respite in the following days and a connection to things that kept me going. I shared your days, your family, your creations and your memories you were making. So, I shall keep you and your family in my prayers in the hopes that will help you all heal. I am sending love and caring thoughts to you and yours.

    • Oh Sheila, I am so sorry, yet I am so glad you drew comfort from my blog. I have made so many friends from blogging, and I am so grateful for your comment and for sharing your experience. I am sad, but also feel very lucky to have so many wonderful and caring people in my life. Thank you for your prayers.

  47. Marie says:

    I became acquainted with you through posts on BNOTP several years ago. At that time, I had no idea how I would come to “know” so many special people and how much I would grow to care for the people I followed. It is with that background that I send my thoughts and prayers. I was very sorry to read of your loss and wanted to send my condolences. MM

  48. Karen says:

    Oh Jenna my heart goes out to you and your family. I am so very sorry to hear of the passing of your wonderful husband. I had been away from blogging and was just now catching up on some of your posts and knew something was wrong. Unfortunately I know some of the pain and sadness you are going through as we just lost our oldest son last week. Friends and family mean so much right now and I hope they give you comfort during the days ahead. You are in my prayers.

    • Oh goodness Karen, I am so sorry for your loss…we lost our youngest son when he was only 18, and I was devastated for a long long time…this has been a little easier as my husband lived a long full life, he was so happy, and I know he could not have handled a lingering illness. I am lucky because I’m very close to my other children and they live close by, plus I have the support of so many friends, I am well taken care of. Prayers to you Karen as you face the challenges ahead, I am truly sorry…
