Fearless Friday, Watercolor Summer Sipper
Doesn’t this make your mouth water?
Flipping through a magazine recently, I saw this frosty glass and thought it would be fun to paint
First a simple pencil sketch and then adding color to the bottom of glass
If you look closely at a glass you will see many different reflections and colors
I used watercolor pencils and added areas of different colors, then blended them with a water brush pen
You can use a regular watercolor brush and water if you prefer. I love the waterbrush pens, so handy with the water inside them, and they are available in a variety of points and sizes
After doing the glass I worked on the garnishes
I used the same technique of coloring, then blending
To finish I added an ink outline with a fine liner pen to make everything pop
Have you tried watercolor pencils? I have some Inktense, but I prefer the General and Faber Castell pencils shown below
Remember to use paper that is for wet and dry media, like this Canson Mixed Media Pad, the paper is treated for wet and dry media, and has a fine texture so it’s good for markers too

I love looking at things through your eyes like pointing out the reflections and colors in that picture. I also love when you show how you paint step by step. It is very fascinating to me even though drawing and painting are not my talents.

My watercolor pencils are derwent and I like them but always game to try others. This is a wonderful shaded piece with the perfect blend of the layers. Hats off to you — it really works and your tutorial (as always) is excellent and very clear!

No Jenna, I haven’t tried the watercolor pencils, but would love to. My son is always having the kids and I try watercolor, but I really don’t like using a brush all the time. I think for me, the pencils would be better, for the control that I would like.
you definitely have more control, but experiment for a while, when you add water they really spread!
