Fearless Friday, “Garden Gate”

I can’t tell you how much your sweet words and inquiries have meant to me as I am adjusting to my recent loss.  I want to let you know that I continue to be surrounded by so many friends and so much love, that I can only feel blessed.  There has been a lot to do but I am slowly getting back into a regular routine and look forward to spending the long holiday weekend at the beach with my children and HH’s sister and her whole family.

I haven’t had time to do much art lately, but I did do this Garden Gate a month or so ago, in one of my favorite mediums, marker and colored pencil

This was the inspiration photo

It began with a pencil sketch, not every detail, just the door and a few suggestions of foliage

Then the sketch was outlined in waterproof ink with a fine liner pen

Then I began slowly adding color

I used colored pencils to soften the marker edges on the door and to blend the colors

I often use the very edge of the paper as a color test space as you can see near the spiral below

Instead of drawing every single leaf and flower I just implied them by varying dots and shapes of color

to finish, I added the brick path

First with marker shapes, then softening with colored pencils and adding a little definition with line

“Garden Gate” 8″ x 10″ mixed media

Be Fearless and have a creative day!

So weird that I just painted something similar this week. A door like that with greens all around. Not my usual thing at all. My mouth dropped open when I saw this. Maybe will post soon. Makes me feel like our hearts are connected right now and I am thinking about you so much. What a coincidence. 💛

    • Wow Jodi, we have always said from the first time we “met” we were soul sisters…great art minds think alike I guess 🙂 What a crazy, eerie, yet very cool coincidence, the Lord does indeed work in mysterious ways…

Yes!! 💛 I love yours. Mine not as much lol. But I love that we were both creating a similar subject at a similar time that is not even our usual kinda thing. ☺️

  2. Jenna, my thoughts and prayers are with you every day. You have shown remarkable grace in such a hard place. I know getting back to a routine and doing the things that you love like painting is therapeutic. The blue gate is so pretty, I love it. Hugs❤️

This gate reminds me of New Mexico as there are so many gates and entrances such as yours. In fact I am putting up chiles this morning…as I always get them from New Mexico, roast and freeze them in small baggies. It makes me homesick when I see your picture and smell my chiles. LOL

I love your garden gate picture. You’re such an amazing artist! Your “dots” DO look like flowers! My dots would just look like…..well,…..dots!! I feel this painting is significant at many levels at this time of your life. Closure; the unknown behind it: yet surrounded by the beauty of love, friendship and family. I think it’s significant that you chose to share this painting today. We would all like to surround you at this time with a healing hug; but know our thoughts are doing that now instead.
