Fearless Friday, MacKenzie-Childs inspired Fall Crafts

This has been a stressful week in the South, and I am happy to report that our little piece of Gulf Coast paradise was spared this time, but my heart aches for everyone suffering from the incredible devastation from Hurricane Michael…many many prayers for my eastern neighbors, Georgia and the Carolinas and now Virginia! Unbelievable storm…

Today is a little more crafty than artsy, and these crafts are simple enough for anyone to do!

What a week, chasing squirrels and dodging hurricanes has left me with little time or energy to start a serious painting…surely next week will be calmer…

I am a huge MacKenzie-Childs fan, they even tagged me in an Instagram post the other day, be still my MKC loving heart!

They have some beautiful ceramic pumpkins in their fall product line, but they are pricey…

Today I’m going to share knock-off painted pumpkins that I made for less than $10, very affordable and easy!

I also made a Candy Corn Scarecrow which was inspired by a variety of scarecrows I saw on Pinterest.  It is made with a wine bottle and things in my craft stash

I got two paper mache pumpkins, one at Hobby Lobby and one at Target

I first painted them with a cream colored chalk paint

Good quality chalk paint is now available at affordable prices in craft departments in many stores, and I love it because it can cover a multitude of sins in just one coat

Plus it dries quickly so you don’t have a lot of waiting time between steps

When you work on several things at once, you can zip right along!

Please forgive my messy desk in the background of these photos…

After the cream coat I added a coat of ochre chalk paint to the bottle and started on the face

The polka dot pumpkin got some large orange dots while my brush was loaded with orange paint from the scarecrow’s nose

Then he got a smile, cheeks and eyelashes

Next he got a candy corn nose and bow, and I wrapped a piece of polka dot burlap ribbon around the bottle neck and secured it with twine

A felt hat brim

And a few wheat stalks and a felt topper finishes his hat

The striped pumpkin was finished with gold stripes and small dots around the patterned stem

The polka dot pumpkin was finished with small gold dots and the stem area is the same as the striped pumpkin

I’m having a lot of fun playing with my new decorations

 Be Fearless!

I love your fearless creativity and painted creations Jenna! The whimsy of the scarecrow bottle with the wheat and candy corn bow makes me smile 🙂 Glad your beach house was spared. We were fortunate not to lose any trees or power. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who l have to deal with the flooding and destruction.

Love your patch of pumpkins and other fall items, Jenna. Wondering which photo MKC tagged you in in IG since I’m not on that platform? Happy your area was spared from the storm. Have a good, CALM weekend.

    • I never could figure out what photo, but it was on National Cake Decorating Day when they posted a beautiful cake on the Courtly Check fluted cake stand. I have that stand, so it must have been a photo of something I posted on my stand. A calm weekend sounds nice…

  10. Like you, I am a HUGE fan of MacKenzie Childs. Every time I get their catalog I sit down with it and just gawk at the beautiful items. They are pricey though, so I really appreciate your creating tutorials on how to make similar things for a fraction of the cost. I love everything here.
