Bless Your Heart Holiday Giveaway!
In the South, when someone says, “Bless your heart,” it can mean a variety of things…
It can be used as a sincere expression of sympathy or genuine concern
But it often is used as a substitute for what one’s really thinking…
{That dress is so ugly it could turn milk sour}
“Bless your heart”
or
{If you had an idea, it would die of loneliness}

It’s the Southern polite way to respond to something you find offensive or ridiculous…
But today I want to say Bless Your Heart in the very nicest way to thank you for all the love and support you have given me these past 3 months…
I am healing, adapting, and beginning a new phase of my life without HH
I have been overwhelmed with the responses of friends, family, business acquaintances,
everyone that knew HH,
right down to our pool guy who tears up every time he comes,
and tells me he does an extra good job at our house because he knows how picky HH was!
It heals my heart everyday hearing from people who liked/loved him so much,
people that worked for him, our children’s friends, his patients…
Anyway, today I want to give back to y’all with a holiday giveaway!

One memorable Christmas had the works:- my parents having a blazing row on Christmas Eve, the dog climbing over the presents under the tree (ripping some of them open) to get to the chocolate ornaments. Dishing out one less dinner than we needed and having to make it up from people’s plates (that had already been served); the dog throwing up the chocolate she’d eaten the night before and my husband, thinking it was just a pile of gold wrappers, picking it up with his bare hands….I could go on, but you get the gist. Oh yes, we’ve never forgotten that Christmas. xx

This is great, Jenna. I’m really glad to hear you’re adapting to a new norm, but I just can’t imagine. The story of the pool boy is super sweet. I just read an article yesterday of the top 25 coolest towns of 2018 and your beach town made the list!
As for a story: my sil doesn’t make homemade stuffing/dressing for the turkey…it’s Stove Top box version….bless her heart….

What a wonderful giveaway opportunity! I love the holidays, and Christmas has always meant so much to my family. We always receive a special delivery from Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, and it is always our brand new Christmas pajamas that we all wear Christmas Eve! This has been as much of a tradition in our home as leaving cookies for Santa Claus!

So happy to hear you are starting to heal and enjoy everyone’s memories of HH! My story: No one in my husband’s family can make gravy or carve a turkey – “Bless their little hearts” for always inviting me to Thanksgiving dinner because they would end up with shredded turkey and lumps in their gravy.
A valued guest! One year my brother in law, after several Bloody Marys, was trying to carve the turkey and it shot off the counter onto the floor! Thanks Patti

I grew up in a large family–oldest of 7. What my siblings and I loved about Christmas Eve is going to the late 10:30 PM mass and then coming home to make cookies for Santa. As we got older we still did this and caught up with what was going on with each other since we were spread out but came home for Christmas. Now with our own families it is still a nice way to have our families catch up.

When our daughter was around 8 (years ago, children believed for much longer than nowadays!) , and was really questioning Santa’s existence (imagine that!), my husband rigged some Christmas bells just outside her bedroom window, that he could maneuver while in another room. Around midnight Christmas Eve we were in bed and he started tugging on the bells. Laura came running in, saw we were “sleeping” and in the morning excitedly squealed that SHE had heard Santa’s sleigh while we were sleeping!! She remembers to this day the excitement she felt, and it was many years before we told her the truth! I am hoping the beauty of the season and being aware of all the love around you (family and followers) will continue to give you strength and comfort.

Thankful you are surrounded by love during this time as any “first” without the loved one is so very hard. Love remembering Thanksgivings with our whole family, 6 of us kids and grandparents too! My dad and my paternal grandma would always be lovingly arguing over who would get to eat the gibletts and heart, ugh! Always made me cringe. But today on Veteran’s Day and my dad’s 14th anniversary of his passing, I am missing my WWII hero father and this memory warms my heart! Thank you Jenna. Decorating the Christmas tree every year is always special. It’s like a sweet walk down memory lane for me. 🎄❤️ The ornaments my children made when they were young fill my heart with joy.

When I was in Junior High a boy let his sled go free. It hit me in my leg and knocked me down. I hit my face and subsequently, I received a black eye. That was my first Christmas present. I do not look too good in the Christmas pictures. Thank You for this giveaway.

As my mother and older sister prepared for Christmas my father would read “The Night Before Christmas ” to my twin sister Marilyn and me. This was a tradition throughout our childhood.

As a child I always worried about getting a Christmas tree. As long as I had a tree ,toys,decorations etc. were second nature in receiving. I dreamed once that I had all small trees upside down hanging in the house. When I woke up on Christmas morning the tree was the first thing I looked for.

ha, that is so sweet! One year our tree literally dropped all it’s needles overnight and we had to rush around the next day to replace it right before Christmas because our kids were little and they thought Santa wouldn’t come if our tree was dead!

Two funny stories come to mind. The first didn’t seem funny at the time, but over the years I have laughed (and so have the rest of the parties) about the first Christmas I woke up on Christmas morning with Rick and the boys. Acutally, I was awakened at about 4 a.m. by Kevin, all of age 8, hurling up dinner in the bathroom. I can’t remember if woke Rick up or not but what I do remember is getting Kevin back to bed and cleaning it up, which believe me, is no one’s idea of a fun job! The second was years later, long after the word was out about Santa. Still, with our annual Christmas Eve tradition of decorating Christmas cookies, there had to be a plate for Santa. So eldest Greg made one that could be served as quite the crudite’ platter — artfully arranged celery, carrots and Christmas cookies — accompanied by a can of Tab. Those kids had me pegged!
I’m glad to hear that you have been surrounded by good care and love. It’s not as if the hurt and loss end after the first year, because it doesn’t. But that “first” Christmas or birthday or anniversary is especially hard. It’s new and it’s different. But when you have good support who will let you “be,” whatever that means to you, you are one step closer to that survivor goal. I send love and cyber hugs your way this season and always.
oh Jeannie, thanks for sharing your memories, it seems when everyday things like getting sick occur on a holiday, they are so much more dramatic! the artful cruditie plate is hysterical! Yes, holidays are tough, but I plan on keeping close to my children and grands…
Oh Jenna – to hear that the pool guy even tears up when he comes to your house says so much about what a wonderful man HH was. I am sure the coming holidays will be challenging for you this year. Jenna, I think of you every day. HH was obviously loved by everyone and I can’t imagine your loss. You have amazed me with your grace in this extremely difficult time. One Christmas our tree kept tipping over. Our grandfather used elastic to secure the Christmas tree to one of the French doors. Every time we walked by the tree it would sway – a “drunken” Christmas tree.
haha, that’s funny!! We have had several Christmas tree disasters over the years, but never a drunken one! Thanks for sharing Ann!
Jenna, I’ve been thinking about you with the holidays on the horizon. I’m so glad to hear you are able to take comfort from everyone’s fond memories of HH and feel the love and support from your his acquaintances, family and friends.
I have a friend that says ‘Bless your heart’ to me all the time, I think it’s said with love, but sometimes I have to pause and think …hmmm…? 🙂
One of my favorite memories is my first Christmas as a newlywed with my in-laws 34 years ago. Everyone was gathered around the tree Christmas morning and it was like someone blew a whistle at the start of a race and paper and bows went flying, with ALL the presents opened 5 minutes later. I was speechless. After collecting myself I said, “No, no, NO! That is NOT how you open presents on Christmas!“ They all looked at me like a had two heads, but I changed how we opened gifts the following year and every year since, with each family member taking turns and going one at a time.

Our grandson suspected last year about Santa and I’m sure he knows this year but he won’t discuss it or admit to it, “bless his heart” and mine!!!
