Fearless Friday, Candy Cane Party

Guess what?

It snowed Wednesday night!

In Alabama

In November!!!!

😱

I’m a little freaked out…

Let’s think about something happy…

Like a Candy Cane Party!  🍭

I know we’ve all got turkey on our minds, but it doesn’t hurt to anticipate the December holidays!

Simple candy cane shapes in pencil, with the help of a ruler

I started with the top candy cane then added more helter skelter underneath

I added stripes and holly, just making it up as I went

More stripes and details

Now for the colors!  I chose 3 shades of green, 3 shades of red and 2 shades of pink, and made a small color swatch palette on the edge of the paper for reference

For the first candy cane I did the colors first

and then cleaned up the edges with a black outline

But from then on I did the outline first and then filled in the color, which is more comfortable for me

As I completed the outlines, I erased the pencil

I chose the colors as I went, keeping the drawing balanced, a little red here, a little green there…

And before I knew it, it was done!

Who can resist a “Candy Cane Party?”

  10. Jenna, candy canes always look so festive. I thought about how much I loved coloring as a child, I always outlined and then filled in. Such a cute idea, my talented friend!

Love the vibrant colors and patterns of your candy canes Jenna! We had a cold 5 inches of rain and it felt like it could be snowing. We’d still be shoveling it if that were the case 🙂
