Tablescapes, Winter Grapefruit

After being housebound for a week with a bad cold I ventured out to Target to pick up a few things

I was greeted at the door with an entire display of beautiful grapefruit colored blooms

I stopped and looked but then walked away to do my shopping

But I kept thinking about how bright and pretty they were…

I just couldn’t resist, and picked up a bunch to bring home

Which of course led to “hmmm, where should I put them…”

And all of a sudden I was shopping the house and creating a tablescape

The foyer is centrally located and visible from many rooms, and this table has brightened the whole house

We have had a very rainy December and January, day after day of dreary cold rain, and this bright table has brought back the sunshine

Yesterday, I put away the dreary dark winter things

And now I’m going bright and thinking Spring!!

  1. Jenna, I love your happy and colorful tablescape in your entry! The grapefruit colored blooms were the perfect inspiration for your setting. The painted stems, the plate stack, and the runner takes my mind away from our gloomy weather. I am glad you are feeling better. I came down with a cold on a Thursday and have been in for the past three days. I love your happy table!

  2. It is fun to shop our own homes for existing things to use in a new way! I wouldn’t have thought of grapefruit with that peachy color.

Oh I am in love with these grapefruit colored flowers. You are wise to grab a bouquet to bring home, perfect to brighten up these dreary rainy days, like today! Beautiful artwork as well. Happy dreary Monday and glad you are feeling better, enough to venture out. I have not yet, hopefully this week. Take care……….sending hugs.

  15. That is SO cheerful! Pantone color of the year is coral and it looks great with the turquoise plates and table runner. I need to paint a table runner. I’d love to be having breakfast there — the happy colors would be the perfect wake-up!

  16. Isn’t it fun when a whimsical purchase can lead to such a beautiful table?! I absolutely love this color combination! In fact, you have really inspired me here. My first set of dishes (purchased back when I was still in high school in the 70s) was Fitz & Floyd’s “Coquilles.” This set has salmon (read: grapefruit!) colored shells on them. I had never thought to pair these with turquoise and was really no longer using them because I was finding them a bit dull. I cannot wait to see what I can do come spring!

    • I have those dishes Pattie!!!! Splurged on them and have enjoyed them for years. I have posted several tablescapes with them {several years ago} I will look forward to seeing what you come up with!!

  17. Jill Kuhn says:

Such pretty colors!! I like how the grapefruit colors pair well with the turquoise blue vase. You are right, it brings sunshine to a dreary day! 💗

need to show this to my wife great color is always a great way to brighten a room and add focus.

  20. lulu says:

Isn’t it amazing what can inspire us? I’m with you when it comes to not wanting dreary around me when so many winter days tend toward gray.

  21. Karen says:

We haven’t had dreary weather, as a matter of fact, it has been lovely in our area of Florida. All the worse since I’ve been indoors with a cold as well. I like your idea of brightening your home with the pretty grapefruit colored table setting.
