Fearless Friday, Seeing Double
How about a cocktail?
Looking at a photo of a Manhattan Cocktail by Cheryl Oz, I was fascinated by all the colors and shapes I saw, and decided to recreate this drink by using a combination of different colored shapes
I started with a very light pencil outline, then went over it in ink, making a few adjustments
This Zentangle like style of drawing is actually a great way to fix any mistakes as you go along, especially when drawing something symmetrical like a glass
I added a few shapes here and there to balance the original drawing and then filled in the rest of the glass with shapes where I saw the different colors and the cherry
I started applying color with Inktense watercolor pencils, yellow, orange and brown
I used a water pen brush to blend, but quickly was unhappy with the result…all my real watercolors are at the beach and I miss them so much! From now on they will travel with me
I used colored pencils and softened the color edges and tried to smooth out the blend
Then I used markers to finish the shapes
Next I had a little fun with colored pencil shadows
And some lines

I am participating in the January Doodlewash Challenge this month, and I am about a week behind…but it has been a fun way to practice and experiment
I have learned, made mistakes, discovered, tried out new supplies…like these pretty colored pencils sent to me by a very thoughtful friend
Each pencil has a different floral design wrapper, and the leads are buttery soft …they are so much fun to use, thank you sweet Mary!

This looks very pretty, but I have to admit I was distracted by the parmesan bubble bites on the sidebar. I could click around and spend an hour reading your things — then of course be starving because of all the delicious food pictures!

I love those pencils! Might have to get them as a birthday present for a friend who might let me try them out! And bravo on your glass that actually looks like glass with liquid. I have the worst time with that. I’m going to have to review this tutorial more than once!
