Fearless Friday, Changing Colors

This has been a busy week, all of a sudden I am redoing my bedroom 😳

I had mentioned to HHjr that the next time he had a hole in his schedule, I would love for his guys to paint my bedroom

Next thing I knew, “hey Mom, it would really help me out if the guys could paint your room tomorrow, my tile shipment for the scheduled job was delayed…”

Yikes!

“Sure, if I don’t have to do A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G…”

“Of course not, we will handle everything” he promised

I knew what color I wanted,

a warm creamy white

but when the room was finished one of the paintings wasn’t working…

the blueish purple flowers had to go

Of course I could move it, hang it in another room…

but other than the purple it was actually perfect

Hmmm…

I have been doing pretty well keeping up with the February Doodlewash Challenge  prompts and couldn’t help but think of the chameleon I recently drew

Chameleons certainly aren’t afraid to change color!

So I took the painting into my studio and changed the purplish blue to creamy white

The purple is still apparent but now it comes across as more of a gray shadow…

and it actually works!

Now I am not recommending that you take license with expensive works of art,

but this is one of my own paintings and I just had to experiment…

Paint can work wonders…

I’ve had this vase for years…it’s not a valuable antique, just a purchase from a Home Goods type store

And I Transformed it with Color and added a row of black dots around the neck of the vase and a few dots scattered on the background

I love it now!

So don’t be afraid to rethink things and perhaps change a paint color on something!

Painted Mirrors

Or use color to go from plain to fanciful!

Painted Flatware

I haven’t quite finished decorating the bedroom, but will share soon…

In the meantime, remember the chameleon and Be Fearless!

  1. All your color makes me so happy! Fun upscale on the vase, too! Happy weekend.

  2. Jenna, I know you are excited to get your bedroom painted and how easy it was for you to change a color on your painting. You are fearless for sure. Have a wonderful weekend!

Your post has arrived just in time…..choosing colors is so, so hard for me, and I don’t know why (well, maybe it has something to do with getting a second opinion from a partner…..). This is where I am right now…..love how your artwork morphed to go with your new room – fun!

    • Rita, I can’t imagine having to make color decisions with your husband, that has got to be tough! I will say, that going from a fairly light green to white in my room has made such a difference, it feels twice as big now and so much brighter, so keep that in mind as you decide…good luck!

  4. Jodi says:

GENIUS! Your creativity is boundless – and I love that you share with us. You inspire me!!!

I think it is wonderful that you can change a painting so easily to fit your new look and how terrific that you have a “ready -to-go” builder, brick-layer, painter, chef all rolled into a wonderful son! You are blessed! Can’t wait to see the new look, I know you will have fun in the process. Enjoy your weekend!

I know you were excited to get your bedroom project going when you got the word to paint. It must be nice to transform your art with a new color when you want. I really love how the painting and the vase look with their new colors and design. I love white, all shades of white paint. Can’t wait to see the finished room……Have fun with this.

We have had lots of colorful rooms; I am in no way afraid of color and love to change it up. Can’t wait to see the new room!

  13. Kitty says:

Your old painting looks all new with the change of purple to white (it does come across as gray), and looks so pretty on the wall of your newly painted bedroom. The vase looks super cute, too! Great transformations, Jenna!

  14. Gigi johnson says:

How do you know what type of paint to use ?
I am not a painter but it’s only one color I need to change

    • If you’re painting on a ceramic surface like the vase, use craft acrylic paint in either a matte finish or glossy, whatever you think would be best. If you’re changing a painting use acrylic. On the flatware I used an acrylic glossy enamel craft paint. I hope this helps!
