Today is Duncan Hines birthday!

March 26 1880 – March 15 1959

Let’s celebrate with a round up of fabulous cakes made with his cake mixes!

Here’s some fun facts about how these cake mixes came to be…Duncan Hines began his career as a salesman traveling the country before there were interstate systems and chain restaurants.  He began making lists of good restaurants he discovered while traveling to share with friends, and often asked the restaurants for recipes.  He eventually had a food column which appeared in newspapers across the nation, featuring these recipes for cooking at home.  In 1952 he began baking and developed his cake mixes.  You can read his biography on Wikipedia here

    Duncan Hines mixes have always been my “go to” mixes and the first brand I choose from the shelf! Thank you for researching the history. I had no idea “he” was a real person: just thought it was a brand name. So interesting. I’m going to bake a cake today in his honor. He’s been at many celebrations in my home over the years! LOL.

    Duncan Hines–my all-time favorite! Drat–I just had to stop by, gain 3 or 4 lbs. by just looking, and like some of the others–now I want CAKE! Seriously, this is fun to read about and that blueberry bundt cake looks like a good one. I do truly see cake in my immediate future.

  11. Happy Birthday Duncan Hines…it was the only cake mix that my mom would use. Wow, from salesman to baker…glad he had a love for that which benefitted us all! I will take that Tiramisu cake!

    My husband would love that Root Beer Float Cake! I remember having those as a kid, I bet the cake is delicious!! You know, I don’t even own a bundt cake pan…going to have to remedy that! Now I want cake! LOL Hugs!

    Duncan Hines and I were the best of friends when my family was young. I baked a lot of cakes back then. This post reminds me I need to bake a cake! Now which one is the only question. Your cakes are always so pretty Jenna…….
