Home Decor, Blooming Master Makeover

One of my New Year’s Resolutions was to redo the master bedroom

A few years ago I got tired of all the serene green and added some floral and polka dot pillows to liven things up

But I got tired of that too, all those perky polka dots were making me a little nuts

I asked HHjr if he would get his guys to paint my room and bath when they had some down time…thinking it would be a while and I would eventually go look at paint colors and bedcover options…

Silly me, it was only a day or two later when he said, “It would really help me out if we could paint your room today, our scheduled job is delayed”

“Hmmm…well, as long as I don’t have to do/move anything…” I replied

“No problem, they will do everything.  What color?”  he asked

“I was thinking of a creamy white” I said

“I know just the right paint color” he said, “you’ll love it!”

And just like that…

I had a bright new room!

I ordered this crazy bright salmon pink quilt from Wayfair and hit Home Goods for some creamy pillows

All my accessories blended right in…that’s the great thing about decorating with a black and white basic palette, it will go with any color you want to put with it

There is a comfy chair for reading or watching TV, with a painted vase that is also a wine cooler

On one night table there is a special box holding a cherished Mother’s Day bookmark from one of my children

Across the room is a sitting area with a table I can use as a desk

On the table is my Valentine memory cube, a special heart ornament and a vase full of MacKenzie-Childs blooms

There is also a decoupaged bottle vase that I will post the tutorial for tomorrow

The room is like a blank canvas, lots of pretty white spaces to fill with paintings and art

I hung the recently painted “Pink Flower Therapy” in the bathroom

I repainted the purple blooms on the Hot House Flowers painting between the windows

into a creamy, shadowy white

The painting over the bed, Rose Garden, still blends well and it’s one of my favorites

I can’t describe what a difference this paint made in both the bedroom and the bathroom

Even though they were both painted with fairly light colors before, the white makes them so much brighter and they feel so much bigger!

I smile every time I walk in~

There is definitely a lot of “flower therapy” going on!

Do you hate the coral quilt?  When I first got it, I wasn’t sure I would keep it, but it’s such a happy pop of color…  my 6 year old grandson said, “wow, Gigi, that is really cool!”

I plan on changing it periodically, maybe to a more neutral gold in the fall and a winter white after that…the bright salmon pink certainly helped on those cold dreary January/February days!

Jenna, I love your new neutral white for your bedroom. White always makes a room feel so open. I think you have to be careful when you tell HHjr you are thinking about a change unless you are definitely ready. At least you don’t have the problem most of us have, a long wait! I think your beautiful paintings really pop as do your pretty bed (love your bed) and tables. Your room has so many special pieces. I adore the box with the bookmark and pic of one of your children. so precious. Your before was so pretty but I love the way you can now add any color with linens, pillows and art. The pop of color with the quilt is gorgeous and it’s so easy to change it out when you want a different look. Beautiful job Jenna……….

    • Oh thanks Emily, it really is a lovely retreat for me…and yes, you’re right, I do need to be prepared if I put in a request, I should know better by now! Thank you for the kind words…

  3. Jenna, I love the color and you can change up bedding and pillows so easily. Your paintings and artwork look beautiful and I appreciate the flower therapy! The coral quilt is perfect, it gives that lovely pop of color! Your mementos make the room so special!

Even with you quiet white background, you’ve added your special pops of color to create a lively, happy space. The room impresses me as being very you.

It is a “happy room” now! What is the name of the white paint?

    • I knew people would ask, the paint is Behr, Bit of Sugar sold at Home Depot. The reason I didn’t include this info originally is that it’s best to paint swatches in different areas of your room and look at them at different times during the day, paint colors will look different depending on the light. Thanks Judy

Love the update! What a huge difference it made in the room. Love the quilt, it is a focal point for your room and adds just enough pop of color! Gorgeous!!

Your room is so bright and cheerful, Jenna. Love your update and beautiful art!!

  11. I love that coral pop of color! And those floral paintings are gorgeous! Great job.

  12. A change is good, sometimes just a fresh color makes a huge difference. That coral color just looks like you, it is in so many of your paintings.

  13. It looks much brighter and more cheerful, yet still a perfect mix of comfy and elegant. I love seeing your art on the walls — and the color of the quilt is perfection!

  14. Jodi says:

beautiful! I wish HHJr lived near me so I could have him come paint!

Your makeover is so fabulous! I love the white walls! My house has all neutral beige walls with white trim. Now everyone has gray walls with white trim. I have always liked white walls and I was hoping white would make a comeback as I am tired and bored with the blah beige. There are so many whites to choose from, but I have always liked that creamy color that looks like…well…cream! Thanks for posting the name of the color. We use Behr paint, so I’m going to think about painting as a summer project!!

  16. Mary says:

Such a pretty and cheery transformation Jenna…I love it! Oh to have a family member who can work you in between jobs 🙂

  17. Kitty says:

Your newly decorated bedroom look so serene and beautiful, Jenna! I love that your son new what the perfect color would be. I have the hardest time picking out paint colors and to have someone do that is a gift! All your art work and projects add such a pretty touch. Happy Easter, Jenna!

  18. Jill Kuhn says:

I like how the coral color adds a pop of color to your room, Jenna! 💗 And of course, I adore all your artwork on the walls. Your creative ideas inspire me! 😊 I’m going to redo my bedroom too. First, we are getting new carpet, then paint. I want to add some of my art to the walls too! 🌸
