Creations, Sunflower Door Basket
When I got back to the city a few days ago, I was itching to fill my house with fresh sunflowers and start transitioning my decor to late summer/early fall
I had an idea rolling around in my head for a sunflower door decoration, and decided to poke around my stash of stuff in the garage before heading to Hobby Lobby
I got out my faux sunflowers, found spools of ribbon and a shallow basket that was begging for a transformation
In no time at all I had everything I needed, no shopping necessary!
Don’t you just love creating something out of stuff you already have??
I thought about painting this creamy white, but I liked the natural look and it would stand out against my white front door
I cut the stems of these faux blooms to about 4 inches, and simply stuck them through the basket bottom
{or you can cut the blooms off the stems and glue them to the basket}
Easy Peasy!
Next I cut the ribbons I chose into varying lengths and secured the end with a thin wire
Then I took the ends of the wire and stuck them through the basket bottom right under the blooms
This is the back of the basket where you can see the stems poking through, then folded to flatten, and the twisted wires securing the ribbons. At the top center I fashioned a wire loop for hanging the basket
Next came a simple bow out of the black and white ribbon
I wrapped a piece of thin wire around the knot and secured the bow through the basket back just above the ribbon tail
The whole project took maybe 20 minutes

How can one not smile in the presence of Sunflowers? I long ago gave up trying to grow my own, as the squirrels dug up the seeds. Numerous attempts to transplant seedlings grown indoors also met failure, as the rabbits loved them more than the available clover. I resorted to using the faux variety when the fresh ones were not available. You have given me a beautiful way to re-purpose some of the faux ones. Your watercolor sunflowers are to die for! Thank-you!
Thank you Ellen, I have never tried to grow them, but I love been able to grab a bunch at the grocery store, and I have found great faux ones at Hob Lob…have fun!! 🌻
I know I have to get to the basement and find some sunflowers. Out of 4 packages of sunflower seeds, I think I have only 3-4 plants, some I’m waiting to see if they are sunflowers? Cute idea—I think I have one of those baskets somewhere to play with!

So cute, just one of many of your creative endeavors, Jenna. I am transitioning a few things here at home too, but the weather forecast is calling for the next couple of weeks to be extremely hot again. Summer’s still going strong. And my guess is further south, you’re just about to that point of late summer called hell’s front porch? Oh well, a few cool mornings here and leaves turning [from more than likely the heat and dry past few weeks] makes us ready for fall, no doubt!
ha ha, haven’t heard the term “hell’s front porch” but yes it is plenty hot here, 97 today, yuk! I stay in the AC and look forward to getting back to the coast and my pool asap! Thanks Rita, stay cool!
