Fearless Friday, Fast & Loose Floral

It had been way to long since I had some acrylic fun in my studio so I decided to just paint a large fast and loose floral, with not much in mind except color and bold shapes and strokes

This is my paint cabinet, it holds all my acrylic paint tubes and I have color charts taped inside the door for easy reference

I start out with a simple color palette, adding additional colors as I go if necessary

Titanium white, Cad Yellow Medium, Cad Red Medium, Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue, Permanent Rose, Phthalo Green {blue shade} are on my palette today

I prepped the canvas with black gesso and for some reason I left part of it white…experimenting

Next I began laying in the background with shades of blue and green

Next, came leaves, stems and the vase, in a very loose and abstract manor

Blooms with a palette knife

Rose type blooms with a brush and paint mixed with heavy gel medium for texture

More blooms and background layers

A few petals on the ground for added interest

I’m not quite sure if it’s finished yet…I think it still needs something…the best thing to do when you get to this point is to STOP…walk away for a day or two and then come back…often you will decide you either like it the way it is or you will see exactly what you need to do for the finishing touch~

Don’t forget to let loose and just have fun!

I really LOVE your paint cabinet, Jenna, it looks like you enjoyed painting and embellishing THAT just as much as you obviously enjoyed your floral painting – such a happy post to read on what is a rather dreary, rainy, Friday, here in Pennsylvania! (HOWEVER the sun is shining in my art studio! – Daylight bulb! – 🙂 )
