Fearless Friday, Watercolor Leaf Tags
Today let’s make watercolor leaf tags
This method has infinite possibilities, you can adapt it for any season or occasion,
Just in time for special fall gatherings and Thanksgiving
And these tags can be tied on just about anything!

You don’t have to be a professional artist to do this!
It’s easy peasy I promise!
First, use a sheet of sturdy watercolor paper*
*I like cold pressed 140 lb. on a block
If your paper is not on a block, tape the edges down to a board so the paper will remain flat
Brush paper with water all over with a big fat brush
Drop fall colors such as red, orange, brown and sap green onto the paper
Let the colors run and blend and use a brush to help spread color over the entire surface
Let paper dry thoroughly
Turn paper over and draw leaf shapes in pencil
Pinterest is a great source for finding leaf shapes and templates

I drew my leaves free hand but you can certainly download a free template and trace them
Next, cut the leaves out
As you can see in the photo above I simplified the leaf shape details when cutting
Make them as simple or as intricate as you want
Turn them over and
Voilà!
{Voilà is CC’s new favorite word,
where in the world she heard/got that I don’t know,
but it’s pretty funny when a 6 year old says it}
If the leaves have any white spots you can touch them up
Next add a thin ink outline close to the edge to further define the leaf shape
Write names or a short message like thankful, blessed, gather
Punch a hole in each leaf and add a twine or ribbon tie
Cut a length of twine or thin ribbon then fold it in half forming a loop
Thread the loop through the hole in the leaf
Pull the cut ends through the loop and tighten to secure the tag to the leaf
Now they are ready to be tied on a pumpkin,
an apple, a favor, a napkin, a stemmed glass, whatever you’d like!

A fun craft you can do with the kids
Notes:
You can purchase inexpensive watercolor sets at craft stores, Walmart, Target
Watercolor paper is thick and sturdy which makes it suitable for tags
If you don’t want to paint paper you can glue tissue, colored or scrap book paper to card stock and then cut out leaf shapes
