I usually dash off to the beach right after Christmas
but this year the forecast was rainy…
So instead of scurrying to get holiday decor put away, I did something different
I kept a lot of decorations in place, and transitioned them from Christmas to winter
A friend gave me this stunning silver waxed amaryllis bulb for my birthday earlier in December
It bloomed right on cue on Christmas Day!
It quickly became the star of the foyer centerpiece
The foyer is the center of our home, seen from almost every room
so I try to keep something special on the table
I moved the Alabama Cotton Tree from it’s annual fireplace location
into the foyer to brighten January days and nights
We ended up having 5 parties in 10 days
Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Saturday’s Bowl Games,
New Year’s Day and a January birthday
yes I’m exhausted
so I was glad the house still looked so festive!
The real tree did come down a few days after Christmas
but I couldn’t bear to put my new nutcracker away
He was holding a wreath and a stack of packages
which I replaced with a couple of MacKenzie-Childs blooms
We are now calling him our “Palace Guard”
I am thinking of leaving everything in place through Valentine’s Day,
the black, white and red create such a happy, warm atmosphere
A colorful bottle brush forest fills the secretary in the great room
Snowy decor took over the bar
With some festive New Year things
HHjr gave me this LED board for Christmas
It came with special markers for drawing and writing
It will be fun to use for seasons, parties, menus
HHjr got creative and made this mantel decoration for our Citrus Bowl party
We watched the Alabama vs Michigan game outside by the fire
with family and friends on New Year’s Day
After the Citrus Bowl party, I moved the citrus into the kitchen
This bright winter island really keeps the mood cheery
instead of January dreary!
Plus it smells so good!
It was perfect for NG’s January birthday party
CC was very proud of the cake she baked for her Dad!

Looks great, Jenna. It does feel bare once all the Christmas comes down, and I always intend to leave some wintry things out, but usually end up just putting it all away so as not to have to keep dragging things in/out of storage. I love your foyer table and cute palace guard (didnt realize those items come off his arms – convenient!) I did buy a few new pillow covers (which cushions just happen to come with, lol. I’m investing a lot of $ in vacuum seal plastic bags these days until I possible yard sale the pillow forms and other covers). Have a great new week.

The palace guard is so handsome, I am glad to see him in a place of honor. What a great idea to leave up some of the Christmas and winterize it as a transition. CC is a doll with her cake. I love the bright versus the dreary in winter and your home looks lovely! That amaryllis is a stunner and I adore your new nutcracker. I wouldn’t put him away, either. I’m sort of eager to get the big tree down but the house is completely in chaos with the kitchen re-do and till I get that put back together (part of which includes finishing it) I can’t really take down the tree. I usually leave things up till Twelfth Night (or beyond with some of the more “winter” trees, but right now with everything in a mess, it feels like too much, like my house is caving in on me. All will be well, and I’m a lucky soul. I love that you are leaving some things up. I’ll leave up the bottlebrush mantel, for sure and some of the other winter things. It’s festive!
I am sorry your house is in havoc Jeanie, remodeling {especially a kitchen is not for sissies! It will all be worth it, it sounds like you have a great attitude! I think our palace guard will disappear come spring and summer, and march back out next fall 🙂

With the dreary gray days of winter, we need some color and lights. We had very few decorations up this year, and I’m also resisting taking everything down. Love your Citrus Bowl…LOL. Clever and your black/white decor really does set up well for winter! Winter is long and any extra lights are welcome!!!

Jenna, I’m with you about leaving out some of the decor. Well, actually all of ours is still out except for the buffet which was transitioned to New Year’s 2020 decor. I start today putting things away, but it will be a slow, organized process. If I take time to put things away with next year in mind, it makes the decorating more efficient. Love the idea of keeping the red, white, and black out through Valentines. And the citrus bowl is perfect for a fresh start!!! Happy 2020!

Everything looks so bright and festive for winter. I leave my Winter Frolic out through Valentine’s Day, winter scenes to give a winter mood. I will also leave a few others things on the hutch so it worn’t be so shocking with all the Christmas decorations put away. Sill working on the “put away” here! Have a wonderful week Jenna…..
Your Winter Frolic is so perfect for these next few months…around Valentine’s Day, I start to really get Spring fever, but right now I am really enjoying the red. It is nice to have a chance to settle down after busy holidays, but I wouldn’t mind a Caribbean cruise like Jackie and Patti 🙂
I’m in the process of putting things away but leaving a few things in place as they speak more of the season than Christmas. Heck, I still have my white pumpkins out! Your palace guard is wonderful, but I do have a thing for nutcrackers.
He is a handsome one! He will probably disappear for a while in a few months unless I can figure out a way to make him look Springy 🙂
