Home Decor, Love Lantern and a Winter Valentine Mantel

I am slowly transitioning out of January this week

{winter winter go away!}

My pretty poinsettia was looking sad

It has been blasted by a heating vent in our freezing weather

I was tiring of the green garland too,

it was looking cumbersome and I was ready for a change

Ahhh, that’s better!

Hmmm…what could I put in place of the poinsettia…

A lantern decorated for upcoming Valentine’s day!

I gathered ribbon and other Valentine trinkets and got to work

First I made a black and white checked bow with a heart ornament in the center

I used craft wire to secure it to the ring on the top of the lantern

Next came a flying cupid which I hung from the wire securing the bow

I tied a purple ruffled edge ribbon into a bow just behind the red heart

This covers up the wires securing the previous elements

Then I added a black fluffy length of trim and bright pink sheer ribbon on each side

Next came a Hugs & Kisses ornament hung

from strands of Valentine heart wire garland

And final touches of a heart ornament and an MKC tassle,

given to me by very special friends,

hang from the door latch

Since there is so much going on outside the lantern I haven’t put anything inside…

{yet!}

I am going to use the pink pillow right now, and switch it out for the

Bless Your Heart pillow when it’s closer to Valentine’s Day

I added a bottle vase with a poinsettia stem for a fresh element

Then added black and white checked trees to tie in the black and white checked ribbon on the lantern

It still looks wintery but refreshed and ready for another holiday!

If your holiday poinsettia is fading,

and dropping leaves and you’re not going to save it

Cut the stems and put them in a vase to enjoy longer

❤️💕❤️

    Jenna, sooo cute!! Fits your artistic personality to a T!! I would have stopped probably with only the black and white bow on the lantern because I lack the artistic vision to see what more elements could add.

    What a great idea to dress up your lantern and also cutting stems from the Pontsettia to fill a vase. Now that’s what I call getting your monies worth! Saturday, I hope to bring out a few Valentine / heart touches just to help move winter along. Yup, only about 8 weeks until spring…😊

  12. Cyndi Raines says:

    Oops, that should have been poinsettti. 😄
