Fearless Friday, Romanian Street in Pastel

Using different types of art mediums is a great way to learn,

experiment, challenge yourself, or just have fun

When I’m on the coast, I love to play with pastels

Pastel is such a fun medium, it forces you to be bold and free

I have a set of 72 semi hard pastel sticks and a set of 48 pastel pencils

and a set of pan pastels in primary colors

They all behave in slightly different ways, so I often use parts of each set

I use a tabletop easel with a sheet of folded paper to catch the pastel dust

Pastels are fun but they are messy!

The photo I used for this painting is from Unsplash

After a simple line sketch to establish the composition

I put down blocks of color

Next I added windows and began filling in the buildings

Next came some work on the street

Then I used shades of green and blue to indicate the trees in the distance

and added white to soften the sky

Next roof shingles and details were added

To finish, I used a pastel pencil to add a few lines

There are tons of free art tutorials on You Tube, here are some demonstrations I have watched that you might enjoy:

their shipping times aren’t quite as fast as before the virus,

but they are still shipping most things fairly quickly

  1. Good morning Jenna. The pastel of the Romanian street is so lovely. I always enjoy Fearless Friday! Happy Easter weekend!

  2. I may have to check out those videos. They look like fun. And I do love the street scene. That yellow building — the texture — really looks like stucco.
