I have a passion for MacKenzie-Childs and all things black and white
*Sigh*
Last week they held their annual mid Summer Barn Sale,
with tons of pretties deeply discounted~
This year I was actually able to go because it was online!
Even though I filled my cart several times,
checking the website every day for new additions,
ultimately, nothing I really wanted was on sale {or already sold out}
so, I didn’t buy a thing…
BUT!!!
As I was looking through my fall decor,
I spotted this little red truck that I bought last year at Hobby Lobby {$12}
With MacKenzie-Childs on my mind,
I immediately thought of their Courtly Check Christmas Truck
💡💡💡
I will paint mine!
My truck has a candle holder in the back,
which just adds to the decorating possibilities
I started with painting the top, fenders and truck bed sides
with white glossy craft enamel
The first coat was a bit thin as the gloss paint doesn’t love the slick metal,
but after applying a second coat it was fine
In the photo above,
you can see the contrast between the first coat on the candle holder in the truck bed,
while the top, sides and fenders had received a second coat
When the white was dry, I added the checks with a flat square tip brush
I used several sizes,
the largest for the main large areas
and the smaller ones to fill in the tight and smaller spaces
Practice your strokes on a piece of paper,
You want to apply the checks with one stroke for the best results
My checks are far from perfect,
but when you look at the finished truck you don’t really notice
The hub caps, door handles and headlamp backs were painted with several coats of gold
After finishing {and loving!} the checks on the fenders, sides and truck cab,
I decided to paint the hood too
Now this little red truck was ready for dressing up!
When I bought this truck last year,
I liked the rusty orange/red color because it would work
for not only fall and holiday decor,
but year round
I am going to have a lot of fun with my newly made over little red truck!
The MacKenzie-Childs truck is no longer available but I think it sold for $250!
So I’m loving my truck makeover!
Shop your house and see if you have anything that needs a makeover!
