Fearless Friday, Copycat Fergal the Frog

As many of you know I have a passion for MacKenzie-Childs
I love their basic black and white Courtly Check,
the way they mix patterns,
the color combinations
and the sheer whimsey of their pieces

Fergal the frog has tempted me on many occasions
I have drawn him

And today I’m going to show you how I painted him!

I was looking around Hobby Lobby last week,
and there he was…40% off Spring…
and he promptly hopped into my cart
He is a Fergal clone!
He has a gold crown,
but instead of a golden ball his is partially covered in moss
I couldn’t wait to add a few MKC touches
I started with white
If you look closely at real MacKenzie-Childs pieces
you will notice that the white checks
often have a little color in them

I chose to add gold and aqua to the white

I added streaks while the white was still wet
You can also load your brush with white and several colors
The colors will mix and blend as the paint is applied
When the white was dry,
I added stripes to his legs
and checks to the base of the ball
A flat square brush is used to apply the black checks

Next came a “froggy” green

I use a lazy susan {covered by a towel} when I paint objects
so I can turn the piece as I’m painting without touching it
I added stripes to his crown
small dots to his face
big gold polka dots on his front legs and back
and gold dots to the ends of his toes
He’s been hopping around the house and yard

He hopped onto the mantel

He hopped into the hibiscus pot
He admired the pink flowers in a watering can

He enjoyed sunning by the yellow dahlias

Look around your home or craft store and find something to transform…
Have some Fearless Fun!
