Creations, Pretty Posy Serving Bowl

Welcome to the monthly Creative Craft Hop!

Our hop this month is hosted by Sara from Birdz of a Feather

I am an avid MacKenzie-Childs fan,

and one of my friends recently told me one of her neighbors was too~

She asked me to paint something for her birthday,

a plate or glass, or whatever I thought,

in the MacKenzie-Childs style

I used this colorful jam jar for pattern and color inspiration

I actually had a wide rimmed white bowl in my stash

and knew it would be perfect for painting

You can find a similar wide rim serving bowl at Target here

The first step was painting a wide lime green border around the rim

and a row of black checks around the middle

When I’m painting something like this,

I have learned not to worry if it’s not exactly perfect,

because once the piece is finished,

you won’t notice the minor flaws

which actually are part of the hand painted character

Next I painted simple flowers with 2-3 C shaped dabs

I loaded my brush with a little pink and a little orange

The colors mix when applied, and the color mix adds interest and depth

I put a small dark green leaf on each side of the flower

with the tip to a small pointed brush

I added small yellow dots all around the flowers~

Use the top of a paint brush handle to make dots,

dip it in paint then dab it on

Next lavender stripes were painted on with a flat square brush

When the paint on the rim was dry,

I turned the bowl over and added a few rows of checks to the bottom

Note: I used Folk Art acrylic enamel paint for ceramics and glass, that makes the piece washable once the dish has been oven baked according to paint directions. The paint is not food safe so only paint on surfaces that won’t be in contact with food
