Welcome to the monthly Creative Craft Hop
hosted this month by Donna from Modern on Monticello
while Sara takes a short break
Thank you Donna!
Welcome friends, readers and visitors from Patina & Paint!
Today is all about taking a grocery store plastic canister
from blah to Awe!
All it takes is paper, Mod Podge and paint!
I found some photos of flowers and patterns I liked online,
photographed them and printed them out to use
for decoupaging a plastic snack container~
a great way to make your own papers for crafting!
I also had some patterned tissue and a MacKenzie-Childs calendar…
The calendar won out, and the sturdy paper was big enough
to wrap the canister on all sides
Just one seam on the back…
I painted the clear plastic around the top and bottom of the canister
with acrylic glossy craft paint
I cut a circle of paper to fit on the lid
I secured it in place with Mod Podge
I painted checks around the rim,
in the MacKenzie-Childs signature check style,
blending several colors with white
I added yellow dots to the painted areas on the canister
For easy and perfect dots, dip the handle end of a brush into paint
then place it on the spot where you want a dot
You can vary the size of the dots by using different size brush handles
I added dots in between the checks on the lid too
I absolutely love it!
No one would ever guess it was a plastic snack jar
from the grocery store!
I keep jars for “help yourself snacks” on a counter
in the family room…
Now I need to get busy and “glam up” the other jars!
