Home Decor, By the Sea Mermaid Tray

Welcome to The By the Sea on a Tray Blog Tour!

I’m joining my friend Katherine from Katherine’s Corner,

and some other special friends,

for another seasonal Tray Blog Tour

A big thanks to Katherine!

She is kicking off the tour today with her tray creation

You can find all the other tour links at the end of the post

to continue the tour

Instead of my usual Take-out Tuesday recipe today,

I am sharing a By the Sea Mermaid tray

I made this for a centerpiece for our outdoor table,

which just happens to be by the sea!

We spend much of the summer enjoying the coastal breezes

at our beach house

Over the years I have collected many beachy things

This tray usually sits on the end table near the doors to the porch

and I change the arrangement often

I gathered some of my favorite coastal things

and arranged them on the tray

Can you tell that turquoise is my favorite color?

hmmmm… I think this tray needs a mermaid!

The tray elements clockwise from left include:

palm tree candle sticks,

a painted sand dollar bottle

a large decorative bottle with a glass fishing float ornament topper,

a funky candle stick with a decorative orb

a crazy crab,

a mermaid

a sea shell shaped striped vase

and a large faux starfish

The table is polywood, extremely durable and heavy,

it didn’t even move during Hurricane Sally in 2020!

It is my family’s favorite place to dine and we can seat as many as 10

A seahorse table runner, seashell plates and forks,

beach themed margarita glasses, aqua chargers,

and starfish candle holders,

all blend with the mermaid tray centerpiece

I can’t source anything on the tray or table,

I’ve had everything for a while,

but I can share the info on several items that I made

Sand Dollar Bottle/tutorial here

Seashell Forks/tutorial here

There isn’t a tutorial for the margarita glasses,

they were painted with paint made for glass,

with wavy strokes around them to mimic the ocean

in white and various shades of blue

The bottoms are painted to look like sand

with glass beads like sea glass

What a perfect tablescape by the sea. And what I enjoyed is that your creative self made so many of the elements!
Keep on enjoying the sea breezes and making sweet memories!
    Happy Summer!

  5. Rita C. says:

Your By the Sea tray is perfect, Jenna! I am loving that funky candlestick with orb. Did you paint that or buy that candlestick?! Your location is an envious one, no matter how you style it! Happy summer!

    • Thank you Rita! No, I didn’t paint the candlestick, it’s one of a pair that my sisters gave me when they came to visit one time, they are very special to me 🙂

  6. such a nice idea and beautiful By The Sea tray. I love all the lovely shades of blue especially the crab and the mermaid sitting on the end. It looks so pretty as the centerpiece of your table setting.

  7. Chloe Crabtree says:

Ah, there are those painted glasses! I can’t believe that tray was so heavy it didn’t move during the hurricane! You are so fortunate about that, and that it didn’t blow and break something! I loved that you said you think the tray needed a mermaid, and then there was a mermaid that looks like she is thinking!! So cute! Your sand dollar bottle is so pretty, there are so many creative ideas that you could do with bottles like that! You have me thinking! Have a wonderful summer and enjoy that lovely view!

    • Thank you Chloe! I think you misunderstood, the tray was not outside during the hurricane, I was talking about the TABLE being so heavy that it didn’t move. We always secure everything we can during hurricane season and move the small things inside.
I love to craft with bottles, they are fun to decoupage, paint, and adorn, I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

  8. Sensational creative work – I would love to have lunch at that table and dream the afternoon away!

  9. Barbara at Mantel and Table says:

What a fun table Jenna, and your centerpiece tray is perfect! You have such a beautiful spot there to enjoy the sea, and your mermaid looks like she’s enjoying it too. Thanks for sharing your great ideas with us – I especially loved the seashell forks – you’re so creative! Happy Tuesday my friend!

  10. Denise/My Home of All Seasons says:

I love this tray Jenna and the view that goes with it! Turquoise is my favorite too and that striped shell vase is just gorgeous! Of course it is that crazy colorful crab that automatically brings a smile. It’s always such fun visiting with you! Have a wonderful summer. I know you will!

  11. OH! I love your whimsical tray, That is so much fun and the setting is absolutely beautiful. I love the complimentary tablescape and those forks are genius!! Love them- pinning. I love everybody’s interpretations on these tray tours. Happy first day of summer. XO- MaryJo

Is Hurricane Sally in 2020 the year you lost your dock? Then, I think that cute tray was meant to stick around and give you many more opportunities to decorate it! This is a darling arrangement, Jenna. I really appreciate all the pieces you put together, especially the DIY bottle – so pretty!

    • Yes, it was Hurricane Sally that took out our dock, but I was referring to the TABLE when I said it didn’t move…the tray would have been long gone! We always bring everything we can inside during hurricane season…
I love to decorate and paint bottles, I need to make a sandy one like you made for your Message in a Bottle tray, that is such a cute idea! Thanks Rachelle~

  14. Sarah says:

Jenna, how I would love to be by the sea today. I can almost feel the ocean breeze. Your mermaid tray is adorable! Your beautifully set table with the turquoise color palette looks so cool and soothing on a hot summer’s day. Happy first day of summer!

  17. Jenna, I love your magical sense of whimsy that’s really evident in the marvelous bottle, forks and margarita glasses that you painted! And you paired them with the other delightful items on your tray. And of course having the sea as the background to your imaginative tray is perfection! I can readily imagine sitting around your table on a summer’s eve, admiring your tray and the lovely tablescape you built around it. Happy to join the tour with you!

  18. Love Love love it all!! Oh that mermaid is the perfect touch. Such a beautiful view too. Thank you so much for joining in the fun! xo

  19. Jenna, how I love your by the sea tablescape and the mermaid tray. It just says fun in the sun, flip flops, sand, and all things summery at the beach! We haven’t been to the coast for the past couple of years, and I think we need to make a trip in early fall. Happy first day of summer!

  24. Karen says:

This has to be one of my most favorite of your table designs and your tray collection is perfect. It looks like a mermaid put it together from little treasures she had discovered during her adventures in the sea.

  25. Jenna, your mermaid themed try is darling. Great little accessories too. Love the seashell forks. Your beach house is so perfect. You have the sea at your finger tips. Your artwork always shines through. Love the tray theme.

Turquoise is one of my favorite colors too and looks great with the other blues you have added. Love the seahorse runner and those charger plates are gorgeous! Hope those gulf breezes are helping to keep things cool down there. Happy Thursday!

    • Thank you Kim! It’s always a pleasure to play with my coastal decor and set this table and there is usually a nice breeze…this has been an unusually hot June here, I hope you’re having a great summer!
