Our Easter Sunday is going to be a little unconventional this year
Easter 2023 falls on the second Sunday of April
which is also Masters Sunday
The Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta, Georgia
is a very big deal at our house
Both my parents and my husband’s parents were avid golfers
My FIL obtained the hard to get tickets decades ago
and they were passed down to my husband
who was also a passionate golfer
When my husband passed in 2018
I was able to arrange to have the tickets transferred to my son,
HHjr, who was the star of the golf team when he was in school
He decided not to go this year
because it’s supposed to be terrible weather~
cold, windy and rain, not fun for outdoor activities!
Our egg hunt will be inside because our forecast is the same
Our Easter Sunday afternoon will begin
with an Easter Egg Hunt for the grands
and we will be also be watching the final round
of the famous tournament on TV
DD and I decided it would be fun to serve traditional Masters food
with a few Easter touches
Perhaps the most famous food at the Masters is
I am a purist when it comes to Pimiento Cheese,
my recipe is simply extra sharp Cheddar,
Vermont White Cheddar, pimientos and Dukes mayonnaise
I am going to serve it in a bowl and provide and variety of dippers
and things to spread it on, cucumber slices, celery, scoop chips,
baby carrots and a bowl of Georgia Praline Pecans
Bacon Wrapped Asparagus is not a Masters food,
but Spring means asparagus and
these are great for serving on an appetizer buffet
There will be a kid friendly Fruit Platter
Plus another favorite with the kids,
“Bunny Toes” better known as Pigs in a Blanket
BBQ sandwiches are popular at the Masters,
so we will be having BBQ Pulled Pork on small Hawaiian rolls
You can make this a day or 2 ahead of time
and simply reheat it {I reheat mine in a Crock Pot}
and assemble the little buns right before serving
Dessert will be mini Coconut Cupcakes with
“Easter grass” topping
Since we will be inside this year
I am going to set up the buffet on the kitchen island
and load it with flowers, eggs and bunnies!
If you celebrate Easter,
what is your favorite food or tradition?
Please share, I’d love to know!
