Fearless Friday, Pink Grapefruit in Pastel

Pastel painting fascinates me,
but I have limited knowledge and experience
It’s quite a messy medium
and I only do it when I’m at the beach and outdoors

“Sea Oats,” pictured above, is one of my most successful pastel paintings
I really like the “Pastel Pot of Posies,” below, also

The inspiration photo I used for today’s painting
is taped to the top of my easel
I put the easel in an almost vertical position
so the pastel dust will drop down to the bottom
I used both semi hard pastel sticks and pastel pencils

The grapefruit half is colored with yellow, orange and dark orange

The fruit is a blend of pink and red

The glass is painted with the same colors used for the grapefruit

Two shades of green were used for the drink’s garnish

“Pink Grapefruit” 8″ x 12″ pastel on pastel paper

Today’s painting is not very successful,
I think the paper I used was part of the problem,
I had difficulty getting the blends I wanted
But it was a good warm up for more pastel painting this summer
Even if you don’t love the end result of your art,
you always learn something in the process
As an artist, you grow and learn with every creation
so keep trying and
Be Fearless!

I love the texture your paper and the pastels lend to your painting Jenna! I so admire your fearlessness and creativity. Happy Friday ♥
Thank you Mary, I’ve got much to learn about this medium 🙂
Jenna, I love your pastel of pink grapefruit. A perfect piece of art for the beach or anywhere, for that matter.
Happy Friday!
Thank you Pam, happy Saturday!
I do love your “Sea Oats”–so beautiful. I feel like I am there. I also like your line and I think it applies to all kinds of endeavors as a good philosophy: “Even if you don’t love the end result of your ___, you always learn something in the process.” That’s a great thought as we go into the weekend.
Thank you Linda, art, like so many things is a continuing learning experience…
Love this – “As an artist, you grow and learn with every creation so keep trying and Be Fearless!”
Thank you Mary, have a great weekend!
This is so pretty! Thanks for sharing on Crafty Creators!
Thank you Niki 🙂
I don’t use pastel often but I love the texture and how these look here, Jenna. It’s a wonderful, happy grapefruit!
Thanks Jeanie, I don’t use pastels much either, but they are a fun medium!
I know that I have told you this before but girl, you are very creative! You amaze me Jenna. God surely gifted you with much talent. I hope that your week is wonderful to you in every way. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
Aren’t you the sweetest, thank you so much Cindy!
I think this is great Jenna and not unsuccessful at all! I don’t know anything about pastel painting but this is lovely. The ice cubes in the glass look so realistic to me and I love the grainy texture – is that why there is dust? I agree with Cindy that you are very creative and I hope you had a fabulous Monday!
Oh thank you Kim! I’ve got much to learn about pastel painting, I appreciate your kind words, it gives me encouragement~
