Blooming Pumpkin

Fall has finally arrived and I have been busy decorating

and gathering ideas for all things Fall!

Today I am joining a group of very talented ladies

for our monthly Creative Craft Hop

Thank you Donna for being our great hostess!

Welcome friends, readers, and visitors from Modern on Monticello

I have a serious passion for pumpkins

and decided to make a flowering pumpkin canvas

to hang on the front door

Sunflowers, polka dots and a pumpkin!

I started with a 16″ x 20″ artist’s canvas, faux sunflowers and leaves

Paint the canvas black with paint or gesso

Squirt it directly on the canvas and then use a big paint brush

to spread it evenly over the canvas surface and edges

Use orange and yellow paint and a fat brush to paint the pumpkin

Load your brush with both orange and yellow

The colors will combine as you make large “C” strokes

Continue to add “C” and backwards “C” strokes

across the canvas to form a pumpkin

You can see a more detailed pumpkin painting tutorial here

After the paint dried

I began “filling” the pumpkin with sunflowers and leaves

using a glue gun

A little messy, but I knew I it would be covered up as I went along

I used silicone finger protectors while gluing

and highly recommend getting some

they are available here

Once the pumpkin and flowers were done

I painted big white polka dots around it

Then I painted white checks on the canvas edges with a flat square brush

And this blooming pumpkin is ready to brighten any space!
