Welcome to the February edition of the monthly Creative Craft Hop
Thank you Donna from Modern on Monticello
for hosting this month!
Welcome friends, readers, and visitors from
from Rachel @ Tea and Forget Me Nots
with her cute Painted Valentine’s Candles!
I received a box of Pecan Straws for Christmas
They came in a cookie tin that was crying to be repurposed
after the Pecan Straws were gone
Hmmmm…my first thoughts were of decoupage,
but then I got another idea~
MacKenzie-Childs just added a new design to their Spring line,
If you look closely,
you’ll notice that what appears to be simple pink and white checks,
is actually a little more complicated than that
MacKenzie-Childs popular check patterns actually have
streaks of tan mixed in the white
so I decided to do a little “knock off,”
and paint the tin with Rosy Check and decorate it with faux flowers
I got out the paint I wanted to use, pink, white, and Buff Titan
I loaded my large Filbert brush with white and a little Buff,
so when I brush the colors will naturally mix when I stroke
Once the white was dry,
I added the pink checks with a square flat brush like the one below
Start with the bottom row and continue to place the squares
every other space as you continue up and around the tin
As with the white and Buff,
I put pink and white on my brush
letting the colors mix naturally as I stroked
I kept the pink a little darker than the MKC pink
because I liked it better
I didn’t cover the top completely
because I knew I was going to glue the flowers on it
and it would be covered
2 large blooms
2 slightly smaller blooms
Small buds fill in the remaining spaces
Fill it with cookies, candy or a small gift~
perfect for Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day,
birthdays, hostess gift or any occasion!
