Equipment

  • slow cooker

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef or ground chuck
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • salt and pepper
  • 3 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 3/4 cup BBQ sauce I used Sweet Baby Ray's Sweet & Spicy
  • hamburger buns
  • cheddar cheese slices optional

Instructions

  • Spray or line your slow cooker
  • Add ketchup, BBQ sauce, mustard, Worcestershire, garlic powder, brown sugar, salt and pepper. Stir well to combine.
  • Brown beef in skillet, crumbling as you cook and stir it.
  • When beef is done, add minced garlic and cook an additional 1-2 minutes.
  • Drain beef well and add to sauce in slow cooker
  • Cover and cook on low for 4 hours
  • Just before serving, toast buns. Place a slice of cheese on the bottom of the buns and top with meat mixture, and then top with remaining halves of buns

Notes

Variations:
Chop an onion and brown in skillet and add it to beef and sauce if desired, or garnish with chopped raw onion when serving
Serve meat over a baked potato instead of a bun
For a low carb version wrap meat in a large lettuce leaf
If you want to cook this stove top, use the same directions and put the ingredients into a large deep pot and simmer on low heat for an hour to let flavors blend
