Tablescapes, Candy Cane Cloud

This is the “grown up” table for our annual family Christmas Eve Lunch.  We celebrate with our children and grandchildren and HH’s sister and her children and grandchildren and have a day of it!  We started this tradition years ago when our kids were little, so everybody could be at their own homes for Christmas.  This is one reason I decorate like crazy, it is making memories for everyone!

Since it’s lunch, I keep things a little more casual…at each place is a glossy black charger. I opted not to use place mats for a less fussy look.  I did use a round peppermint mat at each end of the table, just to emphasize the candy cane theme.

I use many of the same things from year to year, but try to change it enough so that it’s always a new and different experience

I have had this red polka dot runner for several years {Pier 1} so I began with that down the center.  I actually have 2 and sometimes use one down the length of each side of the table, but this year I decided to do the center runner topped with a large silver platter and some fun stuff in a glass punch bowl.

Can you tell I am a polka dot fanatic? I baby these silver dotted ornaments, [from Crate & Barrel 10 years ago}, they are my absolute favorite and are ALWAYS the star of the show somewhere.  The giant moss ball and big peppermint top the bowl of random balls and crystals.  The whole thing is so crazy it just kind of works for me!

The flatware is tucked in a stocking  with a candy cane beside a clay star holding a place card.  I made the star cards on my computer.  I usually have a special favor at each place but this year it might just be the candy cane!  The red napkins have gold stars and silver dots, and help tie the gold and silver touches together.  As you can tell, I decorate very eclectically, mixing old & new and modern & traditional…my motto is USE WHAT YOU LOVE!

The silver goblets were my Father’s mother’s, passed down lovingly to me from my Mom.  I always felt so special when I got to use one as a child.

Everyone got a red chair sash, but I added a green one to HH’s & my chairs, I mean after all we are the King & Queen of this Party!

along the runner on either side of the center tray, I placed these mercury glass goblets with red glittered candles {say that 3 times fast!} and some glass candle sticks full of crystal baubles and a candy cane.

I got a craving for ICICLES this year, maybe because of the snowman thing and hung some at different levels from the chandelier with some glass candy canes over the centerpiece bowl

and there it is

The “Candy Cane Cloud!”

It sorta looks like it’s raining candy canes and the rain froze half way down forming icicles…I know I have quite the strange imagination!

The kiddos are nearby at their very own candy cane table

and we are ready for a Holly Jolly Merry Meal!
