Creations, Turn Something Old into Something New with Color

I’ve had this vase for years…it’s not a valuable antique, just a purchase from a Home Goods type store

I recently found it when I was Refreshing Spaces for Spring, and thought, why not…

Ever since I took the Home Goods style quiz and found out my style is SASSY, I’ve been going wild with color 😱

I brightened up the stems and leaves with yellow and green Glossies acrylic paint

I painted the pink and orange flowers with Glossie pink and red and left the blue grayish flowers alone except for their centers

I decided against trying to change the background color because I noticed it’s peachy tone was much less prominent once I added the bright pinks and greens.  I neutralized it even further by adding a sprinkle of black paint dots

And added a row of black dots around the neck of the vase

It is perfect for my Lady’s Retreat now

So when I don’t have fresh flowers, I can decorate my table with this bright vase

Just a few little color changes made a big impact, and now my tired old vase has a happy new purpose!

Juicy Details

If you are going to paint something ceramic like this, be sure to use a glossy paint because a regular flat finish paint is going to look dull, and frankly like you painted over something.  I used Liquitex Glossies, it comes in 2 oz. jars, and has a perfect consistency for something like this.  It is not thick like acrylic paint from a tube, it’s more fluid and you can control it.  If you want to use a flat finish paint, then use a gloss spray varnish to finish it and change the matte look of the added paint.

Liquitex Glossies are available at Art Supply stores, craft stores, or on line at Dick Blick here

This Mermaid Pot was created by painting an old ceramic pot with Annie Sloan Old White chalk paint

and then embellished with glass stones and Glossie painted details

So before you toss that ugly ole something, try painting it!
