I haven’t had any time to paint these past few weeks, with house guests and traveling, so today’s painting is one I did a month or so ago, to finish the guest room redo
I did a watercolor of buoys earlier this summer, you can read about the inspiration and see the tutorial here
I wanted to try painting buoys in acrylic too
Here’s my process
Setting up my work space with reference photos, sketches, paint
I use a spray bottle to keep my acrylic paint moist on my palette, you can work for a long time without worries of the paint hardening if you give it a spritz once in a while
You can also put your palette in the refrigerator if you cover it, the paint will stay pliable for a long time. Brushes too, just put them in a ziplock and you can keep a loaded brush in there for days!
Great for furniture painting and other large projects
I chose gray for the underpainting
Roughly laid in the shapes with white paint
And then applied color, refining the shapes as I went
starting to detail the ropes
laying in the background
Refining ropes and shadows
And here it is hanging in it’s new spot
Be Fearless!
