This is a fun way to approach a complicated subject like a flower bloom
If you break it down by shapes, and draw the shapes individually as you see them, you can create a drawing that is much like a mosaic
Pick a focal point and start building from there
This method makes the subject less challenging, sort of like taking baby steps
After I finished the initial sketch, I chose my colors
I lay out the markers in the order of the color chart, so I can easily find the color I want
This is such a time saver!
My subject was this painting by Angela Moulton, I love her bright, bold and casual style
Next I began adding color
I also began filling in the background to help see the flower emerge
Some final details and line to finish it
Here’s another one I did from one of Susannah Bleasley’s paintings
Don’t you love her colorful style?
Both of these sketches I did as a warm up for doing my own painting soon with this bold, casual, almost abstract style
Give this a try, it’s a lot of fun, and it helps you get familiar with your subject
Be Fearless!
