You know how sprinkles make everything better?
Those happy little bits of color that brighten your day
and say “hey, it’s party time!”
We had friends over to watch the Super Bowl
Instead of a football theme
I decided to decorate the buffet for 2 February holidays
Valentines and Mardi Gras
I made cookie bars for a sweet bite
with Valentine and Mardi Gras colored sprinkles
These cookies have a cake mix base,
with candies, flavored chips and sweetened condensed milk
You can use any combo of candies and chips you want
I wanted to keep my cookies white/yellow so I used
Heath Toffee Bits, white chocolate and butterscotch chips
Combine the dry cake mix with 1 egg and melted butter
Spray a 9″ x 13″ baking dish with cookings spray
Line it with a sheet of parchment paper,
{the spray on the glass will hold the paper in place}
Now spray the parchment paper so cookies can be easily removed
Put the batter on the parchment paper
The batter will be stiff,
use a spoon back or your fingers to spread it into an even layer
Now the fun begins!
Sprinkle the toffee bits and flavored chips on top of batter
Pour the sweetened condensed milk over all
Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes
Immediately decorate the warm cookie dough with sprinkles
I did half Valentines, and half Mardi Gras
Let cookies cool completely
Hold each end of the parchment paper to lift baked dough out of the dish
Cut into bars or squares
Notes:
Microwave cookies for 5 seconds each to refresh them, yum
Use colored sprinkles to match your theme, occasion, or sports team
Vary the combo of flavored chips or candy
Add a layer of nuts if desired
This recipe is adapted from Plain Chicken
HOLIDAY COOKIE BARS
Equipment
- parchment paper
Ingredients
- 1 box vanilla cake mix
- 1 large egg
- 6 Tablespoons unsalted butter melted
- 1 8 oz bag of Toffee Chips
- 6 oz. butterscotch chips
- 6 oz. white chocolate chips
- 14 oz sweetened condensed milk
- cooking spray
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Spray a 9″ x 13″ baking dish with cooking spray. Line it with parchment paper and then spray the paper.
- Combine dry cake mix with egg and then add melted butter, forming a stiff batter. Place batter on paper in dish. Using the back of a spoon or your fingers, spread batter into a somewhat even layer in the bottom of the dish.
- Top with candy and chips. Pour milk slowly over all, letting it seep down into all the nooks and crannies.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, until dough is set and golden, and firm in the middle. Top immediately with sprinkles of choice.
- Let cookies cool completely. Lift parchment out of baking dish to remove baked dough. Cut into squares or bars with a sharp knife. Store covered. Refresh cookies by microwaving for 5-10 seconds per cookie, for a fresh out of the oven flavor.
- Makes about 3 dozen, depending on what size you cut them
Look for the large variety size container of sprinkles
You can customize your cookies or desserts for any occasion!
This container, from the grocery store, has pink, red, green, purple, orange and blue
Michaels and Hobby Lobby have a variety of sprinkles, sugars and decorations too
Happy Everything!
