Fearless Friday, Red Wine

Here we are, half way through World Watercolor Month!

I am ashamed to tell you that I have missed 4

out of the first 15 days 😵

BUT that’s what’s great about this challenge,

join in when you can, no pressure!

Beach “time”

I did take some time one day to find inspiration photos

to use for the remaining July prompts

To me, the hardest part of the challenge

is deciding what to paint

so having already made those decisions

really saves time

“Strong”

Today we’re going to pour a glass of wine

Below is my inspiration photo

I was drawn to the dramatic contrasts and the

“strong” bold colors

I started with a pencil sketch

Then I began by making borders around the areas

I wanted to leave white highlights

{You can also use liquid masking fluid to preserve these areas}

Next I painted the bottle in various shades of green,

and the wine in shades of red

I was having so much fun,

I got distracted and forgot to take more photos…

I added gold shadows to the wine glass and added a stem

Then I realized that it looks like the wine

was pouring outside of the glass

because I painted over the rim

I added 2 short lines with ochre gouache paint

over the red to capture the rim again

and show the wine pouring into the glass

“Red Wine” 6″ x 9″ watercolor on mixed media paper

Right now I’m using Mofuny Mixed Media spiral bound books

from Amazon here

They have a hard cover and the size is great for single works

or putting several works on a page

They can be used with wet or dry media

and are currently bargain priced, in my opinion,

2 9″ x 12″ 60 page books for $18.99

Happy Creating,

Be Fearless!
