Fearless Friday, Still Life with Shapes

Today’s creation was inspired by some art I saw on Pinterest

The focus of these paintings is shape,

portraying the still life by emphasizing shapes and using dramatic color

I found a photograph I wanted to use to try this technique

I uploaded it to PicMonkey,

an online photo editor

and played around with a few special effects

to see the photo broken down into shapes

Here’s how it looked with the Posterize effect

Then I uploaded the photo to my iPhone

and played around with the Waterlogue app

This is how it looked with the Illustration Lightness effect

Then I made a collage of these different styles to refer to

as I drew and colored my still life

I started with a pencil sketch, beginning with the pitcher

Then adding the flowers and leaves, shape by shape

Next I used my marker color chart and chose colors

I highly recommend making a color chart for each type of media you use

It saves so much time

I did add a few more colors as the painting progressed but these are the ones initially chosen

I inked over the pencil shapes with a large tip, .08 fineliner

Then proceeded to fill in the colors

Here it is [bottom right] with the inspiration photos

This is a lot of fun and a great way to practice your drawing skills

Do you like the exaggerated shape style artwork?

I would love to hear your thoughts!

Have fun and Be Fearless!
