Come on in to my kitchen

I want to show you the snack jar I made

for my ever hungry boys

I share my house with my bachelor son and his two boys,

one is a teenager and one is a tween

They are always hungry and looking for snacks

I decided to make a snack jar for the kitchen island

where they often sit and hang out or watch TV

I’ve had this lidded jar in my craft stash for several years,

just waiting for an inspiration~

I don’t remember where I got it

but there is a very similar one on Amazon here

The kitchen is mostly black and white

and I have a collection of cute pigs scattered around

Chef MacPig joins a MacKenzie-Childs compote a large tray on the island

The compote is often filled with fruit for snacking

or potatoes and onions for cooking

I decided to paint the jar to match

I painted the sides and bottom with white glossy enamel craft paint

Then I elevated it on 2 paint jars to make it easier to paint the checks

I used a flat square brush to paint the checks with craft enamel glossy black

I painted the checks with one stroke and spaced them to look like checks

If you get any fuzzy edges, just go back and fix them with a fine liner brush

I glued flat bottom glass beads in two rows,

right above the checked area,

sort of forming a half circle for the sunflower center

on both large sides of the jar

Then I began painting the flower

After the first row of yellow petals

I added a second row with smaller orange petals

You can see my tutorial for Painting Sunflowers here

To finish I added small dots all over the rest of the jar,

using the tip end of the brush,

dipping it in black paint and then placing it down onto the glass

I left the lid plain as I knew it was going get lots of action 😂

I keep it filled with an assortment of cracker packs

and individual cookie bags

This way everything stays fresh

and perfect for grab and go snacking

Next up is Gail from Purple Hues & Me

with a very creative upcycle
