Take-out Tuesday, Maple Bacon, Apple & Caramelized Onion Tart

This puff pastry tart is a little sweet from the apples,

tangy from the sharp white cheddar cheese and caramelized onions

and savory from the crispy bacon

It can be an appetizer, side dish or main course

Perfect for this time of year!

I made easy work of the caramelized onions

by doing them in the slow cooker

In 2 hours they were done, and I only stirred them once,

instead of babysittiing them for 30 minutes stove top

I transferred them from the slow cooker to a plate

and put the apple slices in the slow cooker for 1 hour

Roll out the pastry and prick it all over with a fork

and score the edges with a sharp knife

Bake at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes until puffed and golden

Spread it with Maple Bacon Aioli*

You can also mix a touch of maple syrup into mayonnaise

or skip it and layer ingredients directly on the pastry

*Stonewall Kitchen Maple Bacon Aioli is a staple in my house, it’s great on sandwiches, flatbreads, and burgers. You can get it in high end grocery stores like Fresh Market, or from Stonewall Kitchens here, or from Amazon here

Next the caramelized onions

Apples

Half of the cheese

Bacon

The rest of the cheese

Bake at 400 degrees for 10-12 more minutes

or until it is hot and cheese is melted

Cut into squares to serve

Garnish with chopped walnuts if desired
