Now, I am sharing this little ole recipe with you with a disclaimer~this is an old style, “Paula Deen” type recipe with all the usual suspects~Velvetta, sour cream, and sausage~But! I did use light sour cream and cream cheese, and no butter or mayo! I also served this with celery sticks as well as chips, so it was almost figure friendly...This is the kind of dip that screams football and tailgating~ I can see what all the fuss is about… it is addictive!
Legend has it that Hissy Fit Dip was supposedly named after a spoiled Southern belle who was so busy socializing that by the time she got to the appetizer table the dip was all gone, and in true spoiled Southern belle form, she threw a big ole “hissy fit.”
We were a “house divided” last weekend when Alabama played Ole Miss because Darling Daughter is an Ole Miss graduate.
We had to set two tables for the occasion ~
I had to get out the champagne bucket for the Ole Miss table, they like things “fancified”
DD graduated right before they changed the mascot from the Rebel Man to the Black Bear, so her things have the Rebel Man on them
CC of course, is a new fan of mom’s alma mater
This dip is incredibly easy to make
There are lots of different versions of this floating around
I just combined the elements we like
You can make it in advance, up to 24 hours, and stash it in your refrigerator until you want to bake it.
The Hissy Fit dip was a hit with all the fans!
I just want to clarify something
Ole Miss is really the reason we have so many elaborate tailgating parties today {photo source, OxfordMississippi.com}
Tablescaping is an art form at the University of Mississippi and they have been hanging chandys in their tents in the Grove and polishing their candelabras on game day for decades. When fans at other schools were grabbing a hot dog and a coke at the game, Ole Miss fans were spreading out tablecloths and arranging fresh flowers! {photo source, SouthernLiving.com}
