This is a whimsical painting I did for the boys room at the beach
They are all about fishing!
A little tongue in cheek with an image of our boat heading the opposite direction from the fish…
I often just squeeze paint directly on the canvas and then use a brush to even it out, sort of a short cut
I started with a yellow green underpainting, this will bring some warmth to the blue water later
A light band for the sky
and then I laid in the ocean floor in sandy tones, darker blue for the ocean depths, a lighter band nearer the surface
I used short, wave like strokes to convey the water. and a soft shape near the horizon, depicts the impression of a boat
Darkening the water under the boat, for the shadows, helps define it
Next came a few more details to the boat, and adding the fish in simple shapes and tones of orange
The fish got a few details, eyes and fins
Starfish and grasses dot the ocean floor
Lots going on in the deep blue sea!
I made an inspiration board of elements I liked and just jumped in
My favorite thing about acrylic painting is that if you don’t like something, you can easily paint it out 🙂
You’ve just got to Be Fearless!
