Creations, Baby Shower Basket Centerpiece

“hey Mom, do you have any ideas for a cute centerpiece for J’s baby dinner?” DD asked

hmmmm…

“Maybe something with a pretty bottle of rosé, she would love that for celebrating after the baby’s born…” she suggested

“Where is the party?” I asked

“At a Mexican restaurant, so it needs to be pretty casual, and remember this isn’t a shower, it’s just a sprinkle” she said, “since this is her 2nd baby, she doesn’t want any fuss…”

“I already have this basket, I could paint a pink stripe on the bottom and we could fill it with flowers, the wine and a few baby things,” I replied

“I love that idea!” she exclaimed

“Do you want me to bring you the basket after I paint it or go ahead and fill it?” {verrrrry silly question}

“Fill it!” She said

DD has a demanding career and 2 very active toddlers, so I often step in as “her assistant”

I stopped by Trader Joe’s and got pink roses, a pretty plant, sparking rosé and pink saltwater taffy

I had the plastic baby and booties from showers past, and tied the bottle and jar with girly pink and white ribbons

This tiny baby canvas was actually made by one of the girls attending, I bought it from her when we did an art show together

“Is this okay?” I asked DD, thinking to myself that it was super cute…

“Um,”    😳      “uh oh,” I thought…

“It looks really tall,” she replied

that’s daughter speak for “don’t like it”…

I took out the so called giant plant and shifted things around, using a box of pink and white shortbread cookies to fill the void

added some pink children’s chalk

My goal was to use things I already had, and keep it easy to transport

“That’s perfect, thanks mom!”  😅

Juicy Details

basket/Target

It came with a liner, but any basket can be easily lined with a cloth napkin or pretty tea towel or dish cloth

I used Devine Blossom paint from Target’s Devine Color line, yummy colors and a bargain, $5 for an 8oz jar

I like the thickness of this paint, it covers well, yet is easy to paint over large areas.  I  use it for primary layers in large paintings

You can use painter’s tape to mask off the stripe, but it’s tricky since baskets aren’t smooth, so I just carefully painted the edge along the natural break in the rattan.  Keep a damp sponge or rag handy to wipe off any boo boos,  just in case
