Let’s talk a little turkey…
An easy pie decoration~
And an easy pie!
Have you seen Pecan Pie in a jar?
I have seen it at Trader Joe’s, Williams Sonoma, and it’s available on line at Amazon here
I took a little liberty and added some chocolate chips
I love Trader Joe’s pie crust too, it’s so buttery and flaky!
Brush the pie crust cookie cut outs with egg
I used black decorating sugar for the pilgrim hat
A mix of yellow and red gel food colors created the orange for Tom turkey
When researching fun facts about Thanksgiving for the Tablescape Hop last week I discovered this:
Ben Franklin wanted the turkey, not the eagle, to be our national bird. Franklin wrote in a letter to his daughter that the eagle had “bad moral character,” and that the turkey was a “much more respectable bird.”
Thomas Jefferson thought a Federal holiday for Thanksgiving was “the most ridiculous idea” ever conceived. It’s been said that Benjamin Franklin named the male turkey “Tom” to spite Thomas because of their differences of opinion about the holiday and the national bird.
Bake the turkeys until they are almost done and add pecan feathers during the last few minutes so they don’t burn
The color kind of does it’s own thing during baking
Gobble Gobble!
If you don’t want to use Pecan Pie in a Jar, here are some tasty alternatives
