Fearless Friday, Turkey Vase, and Fall Bottle Crafts

Ready for some Fall fun today?

This is especially for my Fearless Friday friends who think they can’t paint

You CAN do this!!

I save empty bottles, they are great for crafts, and I also had an inexpensive glass vase from the florist which I chose for the turkey

A large brown circle for the turkey body

If you break your subject down into simple shapes,

it becomes less intimidating

If you use milk paint or chalk paint it covers bottles pretty well with just one coat and you don’t have to remove the pesky labels

I often work on several pieces at the same time so they can be drying while I work on another

For the base of the Indian corn I loaded my brush with both yellow and light brown and let the colors mix on the bottle as I painted a cob shape

Next I added another cob with the same brush and more darker brown

Still working on the bottle, I added the corn husks with a brush loaded with very light beige and white, using quick bold strokes, going in various directions

While the cob bases were drying I went back to the turkey and added his neck, making a drumstick shape in dark brown, and his head with a dark brown circle

Now for corn kernels in a variety of colors, using a small square brush and short strokes

Tom turkey got a red wattle, eyes, beak, bird legs

And feathers

The Indian corn got a few dark accents in the husks with a small liner brush and dark brown paint

I also decoupaged a bottle with pumpkin patterned napkins

I quickly realized that it was going to be next to impossible to get these thin paper napkins to lay smoothly, so I decided to just roll with it for a more textured look

Once the bottle was dry, I liked the crinkly look

I finished it with a thick rope like twine around the bottle neck

Hot glue secures the twine to the bottle neck and a length hangs down decorated with a few faux leaves

These were all things I had in my fall decor box, and it was great fun to create some new decor without even shopping!

Have fun and Be Fearless!
