Fearless Friday, Buzzzzzz

Happy Valentines Day! ❤️

The 3D painting I hoped to share with you today is still in progress

So let’s create a little Bee and Flower love 🌼 🐝

I looked at bee images on Pinterest for reference in drawing my bee

It has been dark, rainy, and dreary so please excuse the dark photos

The paper I was using is actually white

Step 1 is a light pencil sketch

When drawing something symmetrical like this bee,

it helps to turn your paper while drawing

It doesn’t have to be exactly perfect

Next I inked the sketch with a .02 waterproof fine liner pen

Now the fun begins, adding details

I thickened the outline with a larger nib black brush marker

adding line borders to the wings and back

next I drew in the “panes” of the wings with thick and fine lines

I added shading with a black watercolor wash

giving volume to the body and legs

and indicating transparency in the wings

Then he got some yellow stripes with watercolor

Fine lines were added to the body to finish the bee

Now he needs a flower!

A flower center was painted in with yellow watercolor

Petals are indicated with a pale gray/green wash and defined with ink

The key to a complex subject is breaking it down,

shape by shape, step by step

The process becomes exciting and fulfilling as the drawing slowly emerges

I hope you have a “Bee-u-tiful” Valentines Day!
