I am all about November and Thanksgiving right now,
but my pen seems to have skipped to Christmas!
I have been having fun with the November Doodlewash art challenge,
interpreting the daily prompts with the holidays in mind…
The prompt for this one was “fruit”
“boots”
“Pine cones” is the prompt for Nov. 15th,
and we’re going to get a head start on it today,
drawing and coloring a holiday pine cone
I used a photo from Stone Gable for this drawing
For a complex subject like this, start with a pencil sketch
If you can’t draw it free hand, trace it!
Once you’re satisfied with the pencil sketch,
I like to use a fine liner and ink it
I filled the area directly below the ribbon with greenery,
using markers,
adding line and color as I filled in
I started coloring the the center balls and berries with markers,
leaving white areas for highlights
I worked around the bow,
filling in the greenery with several shades of green markers
Then I began the pine cone, filling in with a golden brown, a deep brown, and black
I added more green and brown to the still white areas just below the bow
I used colored pencils for the ribbon checks to indicate a softer texture
Ready to hang and enjoy!
